Name that creak!

Featured Replies

After a (reasonably) quiet summer now things have cooled down the car is creaking nicely. I've managed to eliminate some of the noises with a dab of silicon lubricant (fusebox cover) and vaseline (rear seat catches). And am in the process of trying to get the glovebox to shut up, sounds like something vibrating in it but nowt in it. However there's a couple I'm struggling with.

There is a intermittant plastic vibrating noise coming from the drivers side door, near the dash. I removed the fusebox cover to see if that was it but alas not. Any ideas? When shutting the door there is a vibration noise from the wing mirror could that be it? (need that haynes manual to see how it comes apart)

The other noise is a creaking coming from around the dashpod, by pushing on it or lifting the dash bit that goes over the top of it can quieten it down. Any thoughts on fixes?

The cars still under warrenty but I'm hesitant to take it back due to the intermitant nature of the noises. (that and the dealers I've used have been rather poor!).

To say the noises (when there) annoy would be an understatment. Current cure is radio cranked up or drive like a loon and so noises get covered by the rest of the car groaning!

I too am chasing a few creeks, I think Skoda build them in to make it more interesting for owners to have some FUN in finding one to cure. I think its just the type of plastic Skoda use being tempreture sensitive, at one point my whole dash was taken out by the dealer three days it took with the aid of a skoda tech to find one creeeeeek the rest i,ve hunted down myself with the help of this fantastic fab forum. As for the glove box greek I also had that replaced under warrenty but it still greeks when its cold!!!!! roll on summer..

Not this may help you, but yes the cooling weather brings the assortment of creaks.

The one that really annoys me is the creak by the glovebox, have tried so many things but I think I may have sorted the problem. coutesy of another member on here.

It was the cover at the side of the dash next to the glovebox. I removed this and hey no creaking. Fixed it back with all collotape over all the catches, seemed to have worked.

I've pulled the cover off the side of the dash on the passengers side and found one creak, lubed it up! will find out tomo if that sorts it. Although its more of a rattle from the glovebox (nowt inside it).

If that fixes it I'll be over joyed, would just leave the dashpod and drivers vibration to go.

Almost got stereo sound when both vibrating rattles are on song!

I have a number of creaks that I put down to the cold wetaher, it's doesn't do it when the car is warmed up inside.

one from the gear stick plastic surround: can press on it to cure,

a couple from the dash board both sides near the side window vents: shoving in on the dash cures this for a bit,

one on the drivers side arm rest on the door, pressing down on this cures it,

and finally, not a creak but when i go over a speed bump a get a knocking noise from the back seats.

I did have the golve box thing but sorted by using rubber grommets on the lid side where it touches the other oem grommets on the dash.

You can see me, i'm the one playing twister in the car!!!

I had a rattle in mine for ages and thought it was coming from the front passenger side somewhere. I looked and looked and tried all sorts. In the end I found it. It was the plastic cover over the high level brake light on the rear hatch, one swift tap with my fist and it stopped. it come back now and again and still sound like its in the front but give it a tap and she stops. It was just strange and I would have sworn it was from the front glovebox or passenger door apart from that she is pretty creak and rattle free now

Them creaks drive me nuts. 1st Fabia faultless. Reminded me of the old VW Golf advert where he had a squeak and it was the lady friends ear ring. This Fabia VRS lots of creaks, but kind of sending me mad unless i crank up the stereo.

Funny thing is i`ve had lots of cars new. Citroens, Renaults, Fords and you don`t notice the creaks or rattles cos they rattle and creak a lot from new, with the Fabia if you have a creak you get paranoid.

Damn it! I managed to lose one of the metal clips that hold the dashboard side cover on. Trying to pull bits apart on the drive by torch light was not such a good idea. Oh well. Given up trying to fix the creaks, as much as I hate to, I'll have to get the dealer to sort it. But it's what the warrenty is for I guess. Bit disappointed with the build quality, my old 03 astra was nice and quiet. Damned uncomfortable, but nice and quiet.
