Thanks

One word.

No

Just read on wrc.com the red bull skoda team have committed to developing a fabia s2000 car

the new fabia will be entering the wrc again after christmass there working on it now

i dont know what the s2000 is though?

S2000 is a new class, for more standard cars, built to a price IIRC. You can download the official technical regs from here Official site of the FIA EUROPEAN TOURING CAR CUP but it's basically for 2 litre non-turbo 4x4 rally cars.

But nowt from Skoda Motorsport

The new Fabia S2000 is being developed by Skoda Motorsport now for testing in 2007.

Yes but that is being done to be available for private teams - the days of Skoda Motorsport aka a full factory team are no more.

AIUI that's correct; the whole basis of S2000 is that there should be no direct manufacturer involvement, beyond developing and making the initial vehicle.

Nothing wrong with that though. Remember though that a lot of factory rally teams have nothing to do with the actual manufacturer at all (Prodrive - Subaru. MSport - Ford) so at least this will still be a proper Skoda :)

IMO, if it brings the price of a competitive car back down into clubman territory, the class is a good thing. If it doesn't, and I've a feeling cars are ~80_000 euro, it's just another complication in a sport that's already in trouble due to the lack of a sensible cost progression from clubbie 2wd to GpN and WRC.

S2000 cars are more expensive than Grp N already, I think they are supposed to be capped at 165,000 Euro though.

They key thing for a manufacturer though is that they don't have to commit to a full WRC campaign in order to homologate one and these cars can also be used in national championships, European Championships as well as the new IRC whereas WRCars in most cases cannot.

I have heard that Fiat are actually making a profit out of their S2000 project now as well as all the publicity which goes with it.
