Dealer refuses to give part no's

Featured Replies

Anyone else had trouble with this?

I rang the normally friendly dealer and asked for a price for an alternator they gave me the price, but when I asked for the part number so I could confirm they had it right they refused to give it to me. I told them I couldn't buy it if they wouldn't confirm the part number and they said bring the car to them and they will confirm it for me.

Apparently its the new policy, but this seems ridiculous to me, just a way of stopping people shopping around once they got the correct part no.

I was going to say try another dealer.

Maybe people don't like you buying the parts and fitting them yourself as they have to pay a lot of money for EKTA, who knows

why pay for etka or ETOS when you can download it for free

But obviously we can not advice you to do so...

Used to get this a lot with Subaru when Subaru UK were trying to make it awkward for Japanese import owners. It's crazy going in for a wing mirror glass and being asked for a chassis number

Bizarrely, my experience of my local Ford parts department has been completely the opposite and they're happy to talk FINIS part codes

Chris

I was always happy to give out part numbers when i worked for Skoda,it's just good customer service.I must admit when we dealt with the local VW dealer a few of the parts advisors would not give out numbers and we were trade

screw em, go to a decent motor factors as the parts will be cheaper and get there quicker. not only that but you'll get service with a smile :)

I can confirm the part number for you. :)

Part, model/engine of car and age. :)
