Wet FRONT N/s carpet

Featured Replies

Hello - I'm newly registered at this Forum and am seeking advice, please, before I shell out at the Stealer's.

My Fabia's front passenger carpet is really wet. I only found it after lifting the rubber mat which I'd placed above the carpet 2 years or so ago, so the carpet has probably been wet for a very long time (which explains the heavy condensation in the car). I can see no evidence of the route whereby the water gets in, so I guess it could be (a) via the rubber seal arond the floor to which the door closes; (B) via a failed door membrane / seal inside the door; or © via the inside of the bonnet. As it's limited to the F/N/S, it's not a disconnected washer line to the rear screen.

I've carried out a serach on this forum. Virtually all the answers are to do with wet rear carpets. They all refer to a known problem with the membrane / seal inside the door.

Has anyone had a problem with the front nearside floor pan carpet getting wet, please? Is this a known problem and is the fix likely to be the membrane inside the door? Finally, is this a job for my friendly local garage (who probably don't see many Fabias) or does it call for the main dealers?

Many thanks.

Sounds like your pollen filter might be blocked :D I believe there's a how to on here for how to check :D

Chris

Check the scuttle bulkhead drain holes, requires wiper arm and plastic grille removal for which you will need new clips, had one in last week with 2" of water, green mould everywhere and an awful smell due to this.

Air conditioning drain - if fitted.

There is no membrane in the door, everything fits to a sheet metal carrier which is bolted (rivetted on later cars) to the door, the periphery of the carrier is sealed. These are known to leak, don't forget the door trim clip sealing washers if you remove the trim. Check with bucket of water over the lower window and look for water coming out between the door and inside door trim.

The pollen filter is more of an Octavia thing as it is situated horizontally in the scuttle, in the Fabia it sits vertically and is accessed from inside the car.

I agree

I agree with the above. I had exactly the same problem a couple of months back. If you feel under and up behing the glove box, check if the insulation is damp- that was the place it leaked in on mine. It turned out to be a few leaves and the rubber drain pipe at the top and back of the engine bay sticking together. Before you do anything too drastic, try the bucket method then have a poke around up the pipe and about a litre of water should drain out (if it is the same problem).

Many thanks for the helpful replies. Shall now follow up.

:( The front doors DO leak as well as the back ones ! as I have had to reseal all of the carrier/doors

I can confirm the front and rear 'metal seal thingy' problem on the doors... You'll know it is 'this' problem when you open a/the door and see a small pool of water running over the plastic of the moulding into the car. I was starting to question the build quality of the VRS (not going to start on squeeky bits inside) with the amount of water that was building up on the inside of the windows (had to de-ice the inside of the car last week). I had a little 'chat' with my local dealer (IML) who said that it was a reported problem, replaced all the aluminium strips within the doors (all under warranty) and I have yet to see a spot of condensation on the windows since....

The rear carpet is pretty yuk at the moment and, if I'm unable to clear the mildrew that has formed under the mat, I was told to get official with them about it!!

Might be worth a little chat with your own dealer regarding the issue...

They are a bit like seives these furbies but its easily fixed with some sealant etc, which is quite a nice cheap gremlin and it could be worse:P
