Haldex 4wd compared with full time 4wd

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just a quick question to those who have driven both the VAG/Audi 4wd systems.

how does the Haldex compare with the full time 4wd?

basically my 2004 A4 has full time 4wd and was wondering how different a haldex car would feel driving? traction and behaving at the limit etc?

thanks :)

cant compare the VAG systems but I did have an Impreza STi which is full time 4wd

Personaly I dont see any real disadvantages to the haldex & the better mpg is certainly a plus. Both cars handle & grip well, the Octy is probably easier to drive as it dosent tend to break away so suddenly even though its about 50 bhp more but thats probably more to do with the wide powerband rather than the all or nothing characteristices of the Scoob. The scoob would go from all to nothing but it didnt have the advantage of ESP either. Spinning all 4 wheels on the scoob was fun but achieved little, its characteristic of hopping sideways when loosing grip at speed was also a tadge scary.

the Octy is certainly more reliable, my scoob had a thirst for anything mechanical, clutches, Engines, wheel bearings etc
