Residential Landlords insurance- HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Eey up,

I've now found a lodger who will be renting my spare room off me. I'm looking at upping my contents insurance, but can't seem tot find one that would cover accidental damage and also my contents if he robs me blind (which I'm sure he won't:O ). The insurers I've spoken to so far have said they would only pay out in the case of theft where there was forced entry:finger:  . But as the lodger would have their own key, they're hardly likely to waste time kicking down the door to rob me, when they could just use the key instead!

My brain hurts:( so any help much appreciated!!:D :D :D

I can't see how any insurer would want to insure you against the risk of someone you choose to allow to live in your house, with you, stealing your stuff as obviously there's nothing to stop them doing so.

Similarly if you were a landlord letting out a whole property, you can insure against theft (e.g. a break-in) but not against the tenants stealing the furniture or fittings.

Having said that, I don't see why you can't get accidental damage cover in your circumstances.
