Full Review on ARB for the Fabia

Featured Replies

As has been requested by quite a view, here's a small, but detailed review on what happened with me and my mission to get an ARB from Jabba UK.

-Ordering the ARB from Jabba for delivery to the UAE:

First, thanks Adrian for helping me out. Then, thanks to Nick for being helpful on the phone.

To those in the GCC countries plus others, I'd like to let you know that getting one down to you is not difficult at all. Especially with the group buys you get here (wallet savings, considering your out of Britain, it is tax free). With Adrian's help, I had one green piece reserved for me, but din't have it sent by Jabba's recommended courier because it will cost you just as much to bring it through them as the bar would cost you.

A performance company (Performance Motorspares) I go to regularly handled the shipping through a contact of their own in the UK for me, after they communicated directly with Adrian and settled it. He put a small commission on top of what it cost to bring it over, but it certainly beats paying GBP180 by well over 60%.

-Fitting the bar onto it:

I got to Performance Motorspares yesterday afternoon, I'd started to worry that maybe the ARB for the Fabia vRS was designed specifically for the vRS and no other model (probably had to do with all the excitement I was going through at the time. I paid the salesman the balance pending, and went over to the workshop with a printout of the link I received on Briskie from a helpful member (can't remember how :o ). I showed it to the head of the workshop, and then I took the bar and went under the car to see if it would fit...it did. That was a relief. The installation began.

It took about a half hour to do, which I thought was pretty quick, but during the installation we had a few issues with the metal straps that go around the bushes and beam (since they're round, and the beam isn't). All in all, the installation was a success.

-On the road:

I leave the workshop, take off, and hit my first 90 degree corner with a 15 meter bend.......WOW!!!!! The body din't roll, and I coulda sworn the back end was about to kick, which has NEVER happened before! I've always had a slight case with understeer, as do all front-wheelers. The car feels absolutely stable on a corner now (it always did with H&Rs on, but nothing like this, especially on bends), and on the road in general too. You can hit speeds on corners you couldn't before and the risk of understeer seems to have reduced as well. Kicking out is the result of this reduction, which isn't a bad thing :D

It is absolutely fantastic to drive on twists and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It cost a fair bit, but it's well worth it, and nothing to regret AT all in anyway.

As a result of this purchase, I am a king on corners now as I am on straights. Formula One beware.

Thanks Adrian, Nick, and everyone on here for the advices you gave out.

:)

Great review Mil - I'm fancying one myself so it's nice to see a review...

 You're spending too long on here - you're 'getting' that Brit humour after all...

Glad it went so smoothly for ya Mil....now you know what others have been raving about.

People talk abut upgrading the front arb but becareful....as this will offset the benefit of having the rear one fitted.

To clarify the following.....

...I don't charge a commission....although I do wonder if I should, ;)

Enjoy.:D

Great review Mil

Just think, you'll be beating Feraris in the bends too, and not just in straight line :P j/k of course :)

Good to hear. I'm very happy with mine now, and with the rear ARB, I don't think I want to tinker around with handling any more :)

You don't need one! Your car's so stiff already and you hardly have any roll.

Your right though, its very stiff and it breaks your back most of the time :D

You should have. Biz is biz after all! But really, thanks alot for your help. I'm not going to fit a front ARB, the rear works well for me :D

Sounds tempting...but will need shipping to Denmark - probably a costly affair.

Will it also fit the combi?

I think if it was marked as a gift you could be ok... he he.

Mil, try driving into a corner far too fast, and half way round aggressively lift off the throttle...

I did! It kicked!

Nice to know that your fabia can now out-handle ANY other fabia you are likely to meet on Dubai's roads.

Now you can take corners that would cause another fabia to "crash and burn" if he was gonna try and copy you!

Enjoy:thumbup:

haha.. I wouldnt mind try copyin him on some corner some day..

Better get an ARB if you don't have one before you try following Mil now, going through a corner, Habibi!

The car definitely handles much better with it on, so unless you are a far far better driver than Mil he will leave you spinning around while he tears through the twisties!:D

Actually I dont have an ARB, But i got something that makes the chassis really stiff in the back :D

Bas, Yasser's Fabia handles extremely well even though he doesn't have an ARB. It's stiff. He's got a big tow bar that's hooked to the bottom of the shock struts both sides, and if I remember seeing corrextly when I looked under the car at the dealers, it's also hoked onto the rear beam!

But thanks for that anyway bro, much appreciated! :D The ride is much stiffer now, the car goes where I want it exactly ;)

TBH it wouldnt surprise me if having a tow bar helps the handling in a similar way, might be a reasonable upgrade to consider for the non-vRS crowd :D

Well It's actually connected to the rear as milton mentioned, My car never oversteers at lift off unless you accelerate hard on a corner and then lift off it'll only oversteer that lil bit and correcting it is really an easy job!
