the leads were in my car to start with, and looking at vwnavi confused the issue even more.

I think you may need to purchase the above mentioned plug and play cable. the standard cabling only provides a gala signal to the radio not the navigation side of the unit.

sorry to ask the obvious but......

whats the part number and do you know where i can get one?

plug & play adapter arrived this morning, an a postal strike an all. tokk 15 mins to fit, a quick spin around town and hey presto, it works like a dream !!!!!!
