FORGE FMIC DIY fit - Piece of cake

Featured Replies

Finally got down to fitting my Forge FMIC today! A few comments:

The parts look top-notch (I hobby weld and there is no way I could do those lovely TIG welds!). The custom silicone hoses both look great and slip on easily. I chose black instead of blue hoses and no Forge logo on the IC.

NO need to jack up the car and remove the under-tray. If you're put off by the thought of getting squished under a car, no worries here. Simply get off the bumper and there's plenty of room to fit everything. Easy, really. I'm fairly heavy, and no trouble lying on the garage floor to undo bits under the bumper.....

I used a 6mm mini-rachet to tighten up the jubilee hose clips - made it easy to tighten things in limited spaces. (go easy tho' - easy to over-tighten!).

Took me on my own under 2 1/2 hours of work to fit.

Although the temps are 20 degree Bahrain-winter weather and it's not fair to comment until we get into a really hot 35+ deg summer - I do notice a difference (butt-dyno). The low end torque deffo seems better - and there's NO fade of power repeatedly revving up to the redline. Car never felt so good....

When you look at the OEM IC, it looks tiny and totally ineffective by comparison.

I'm still keeping the Intelligent waterspray in place for summer - but reading up on the temperature test results, doubt I'll need it.....

The price on the Forge was great, they were very helpful and I saved on any fitting costs (a point I stressed to keep SWMBO under control....)

If you're thinking about it, and you know which end of a screwdriver to hold - deffo a fun DIY mod....

Good stuff, definitely interesting to see how you'll find it during the summer but as you've already noticed, total lack of heat soak when trashing it

What, no installation pics? :)

Glad its all ok Basil

Oops. just realised that I forgot to cut out a piece from the inside bumper plastic.

Still it all fitted on nicely after I used two of the supplied wire-ties to hold the upper and lower hoses together on the Left of the FMIC.....

Wonder if I have to open up a foglight cover to do some Abs trimming???? Or is this really necessary????

Questions, questions.....

All that little flap does is redirect the air to the SMIC, I doubt it makes much difference in reality (IMHO) :D

right-o, flap-ectomy being planned......................

(NOT vasectomy for those dyslexics out there!!!!)

update: I forgot to cut the little ABS flap from behind the Right fog before fitting on the bumper.

I can see now that the inner Abs flap is bent outwards against the lower silicone hose pipe, supporting it securely, lying parallel to the hosing. Much better than risking a roughly cut edge chafing against the nice silicon hosing!

Guess this is a mistake which actually turned out to be an improvement! Joy!

So no need to jack up the car, no need to remove the undertray, and no need to cut. :)

And the performance? OMG! Well worth all the trouble!

A Well-pleased Bas.....
