Fabia big boot ICE

Featured Replies

I got bored with putting shopping in the boot, so stuck a bloody great speaker in it. Just in case anyone else is thinking of doing this, this is what it looks like.

I reckon I'm gonna get some blue backlighting around the amp, + possibly a blue boot courtesy light.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Rob

Very nice :0)

whats the canister in the corner with the blue top ?

who did the install

The canister is a power capacitor, discharges power on short, hard bass to smooth out the power supply as the alternator momentarily doesn't supply enough power. Stops the headlights dimming in time with the music!

I did the install with a lot of help from my mate who's a plumber - bet I've got more silicon sealant in my install than anyone else :)

The silver bit around the top of the sub box is just tile edge trim, sprayed metallic silver and lacquered. I think it works quite well myself - hides the join in the carpet.

Rob

Nice, is the sub ported? what box designer did you use. And lastly why do you have a power cap, no need unless you need lots of power, and even then you are better using a uprated battery.

Looks really though :)

Looks ok ;)

I went for stealth! :)

I went for slightly O.T.T in my ICE days. :o

Stuart: Yes, it's ported, port bends at 90 degrees to run along the base of the box. I didn't use a design program; the alpine product leaflet gave recommended sizes and port dimensions.

The power cap massively reduces the headlight dimming I got before I put it in; as I generally listen to music with a hard bass beat, I reckon I can get away with just the cap to smooth out the power for the relatively short bass hit.

I like the stealth look you got there, Tom. Problem is, with a ported box, it has to be a teeny bit bigger than yours. Also, I've got a liking for blue lights, so it'd be rude not to show the one on the amp really!

I also had a thing for blue lights. :o

OOh, genesis, thats what i like to see.

I still need to get mine properly mounted to the rear seats (its a mofo beast custom 6 channel genesis profile :) )

One more thing, has anyone tried installing 6.5inch speakers in the front, i wana install my MB Quart speakers from my Seat. :)

I went for a false floor with sub box on top for easy removal.

Yep, fit no problem if you make spacers. The only issue will be depth - anything over 60mm mounting depth and you will have issues. :)

One thing with that John, when you crash/roll it, I'd rather not have a 2 stone sub box smash into my skull ;)

With mine all you do is pop the seat forward and out it comes. ;)

Thats why my rear seat belts are always locked. ;)

Anyway only muppets roll cars :rofl:

So what stops the sub going out in a crash? :)

Just velcro :rofl::o

Mine's ratchet strapped to the big bars that cross behind the rear seats (possibly only present on the octy?) so it would have to get through them first :rofl: - still a point well worth considering when fitting a sub, especially as mine weighs around 20Kg, enough to do some serious damage in the event of things going very pear shaped.

Just velcro :rofl::o

:rofl::thumbup:

I haven't got a sub though now, next time it would be secured properly! ;)

It's not funny you bellend :finger:

reminds me i need to take some new piccys of my finished install with carpet and securings, mines "pinned" in with four bolts that stop it sliding about makes more sense with a piccy.

id be care full with that sub and going loud, subs need air to push and a parcel shelf three inchs above aint a great idea tbh thats why boxes are generally angled, something to bear in mind and so u dont rip the sub.

need to work out wot i want to do with my car next i think components upgrading and sound deaden the rattles
