I was thinking about this today. I seem to remember Skoda footing the bill for lost income for you a while back (gearbox mount). Obviously they had absolutely no legal obligation to do this, so may be a case of swings and roundabouts?

I disagree, because they were helpful before, doesn't mean they can ignore their warranty now. plain and simple.

(if you're talking about "real life" then yes,I agree with your statement, the money they paid me, would pay for this work now, but thats not the point is it?!?!, the point is, that income was lost due to their 'new' car having a major failure... through no fault of my own, the further point is, a manufacturer should honour their warranty. If someone pays me for a service, they get it, or they get a refund. I paid £12,000 for a new car, with a two year unlimited mileage warranty. I don't expect to pay for "rapairs" [which is what they are], I expect the warranty to be honoured.)

If they want to just do a 60k warranty, then thats what they should state. and it wasn't a mount. it was all the mounts, and the sub-frame, and the whole gearbox, and the driveshafts......

your car is on target to run a higher mileage to age ratio than mine.... you should feel secure in your unlimited mileage two year warranty.... if your gearbox does the same at 70k, and Skoda say "well, 70k is about a fair mileage for a gearbox to last..." and refuse to pay, will you happily pay the £2000 to replace it all?! will your car have covered 70k at 20 months old?

i was offered £7k for my 04 VRS with 38k on the clock , i tried not to look to happy when the figure was mentioned and even said i wanted a bit more:D

would be happy with this. the service manager however, says they have never successfully replaced bushes, and won't even try, but they will only do the whole arm!

We bought a 1993 Mondeo at three years old. At three & 1/2 years & 70K ish miles I got an advisory at the MOT to change the front suspension bushes as they were worn. Got it done & the car drove like a bag of **** afterwards. Took it back & (after I pushed it!) the garage phoned Ford & found out you should never change just the bushes; complete wishbones only. Garage did this for me for free & Mondeo drove nicely again. Garage told me it was the first Mondeo they had done & so this was why they didn't know about the 'complete wishbone' only thing.

I can see both sides of the argument here but on balance, if I was in your shoes, I think I would expect this to be done under warranty, or at least the compromise proposed by ChrisGB.

Got mine for sale privately at the moment (more like a feeler I suppose as Mazda haven't offered me the right deal on my new car yet).

at a Renault dealer against a Clio197 , but i wasn't going to pay full price(16k) for one when they are less than

Really sorry to here this sharky, guess you won't be joining the mellow yellow club :o, seriously tho it does suck, and is worrying that Skoda are willing to circumnavigate a warrenty in this way, what is the point of even 60k miles if they are going to say a fault should be apparent earlier for it to be their fault?

I can sort of understand bushes being classed as a wear and tear part, but given that on my first Favorit I had an exhaust replaced under warrenty when the dealer did a 'warrenty run out' inspection with the cars service. Guess not eveything under VAG rule is for the better.

Wasn't keen on the interior of the Punto myself but at under 10k sounds like a ood deal, best of luck and still bob along to meets:thumbup:

i think you have received pretty poor customer service , if you had been driving a Ford , those parts would have been changed without question even if as you were above the 60k , you would maybe have had to pay a small contribution , if the parts failing are a known concern on a Ford , they generally say just do them .

i know you are a bit cheesed off at the moment over what has happened , but wouldn't it just be cheaper to get the bushes fitted at the Seat dealers instead of buying a new car , although i can see your reasons for doing so , what with the fact that Skoda say you have no warranty .

anyway good luck with whatever you do/buy , hasn't the Punto got 0% on it at the mo

thanks for the kind words... yes, when I had citroens I had an exhaust done under warranty, and this I would class a a 'wear out' item, and wouldn't even ask them to do under warranty!... I also even had a clutch! (was only 15k tho...)

I'll bob along to the meets, always fun, especially the next BBQ:)

edit: I like the extra things that come as standard compaired to the furby, like ESP, 6 airbags, bluetooth stereo, climate control ect ;) my local dealer has promised that if I have any suspention issues while under warranty they will be replaced for free! lol....

thanks again for the kind words..... I still have a warranty, until April, but only for things Skoda feel like replacing... I'm sure their "wear and tear" list will get longer as the mileage increases! when I hit 100k, would they replace the turbo, or engine, or anything else at all?! I doubt it. even though it will still be under warranty.

two reasons for the new car though

1) next service I need new rear brake discs/pads... service after that cam belt (and of course a water pump, as Skoda would deffinately say no to a new engine if it died! now I know how their 'apparant' warranty works!) and a new car means no such costs (and no payments for another month...)

2) and MOST important... I've lost all enthusiasm for it now.... I used to look forward to getting up and driving it for 200 miles every day, thought it was a great place to be, but now I'm just scared it's going to break. :(

I stand by what I say, I think the bushes would be classed as a wear item and that 60k is an acceptable mileage to get from them. You don't get 60k from a tyre nor expect SUK to replace them.

Those bushes are a changable item and the procedure is in the Fabia Binder, and the bushes are much less than £10 each. PM me an email addy if you want more info.

I hope it all works out for you with the Fiat if you choose to take that route and I hope it stands up to the abuse the Skoda would.

Those bushes are a changable item and the procedure is in the Fabia Binder, and the bushes are much less than

I wholeheartedly agree with you, if they are 100% sure it's new arms that are required then that is a warranty issue as far as I am concerned.

Hmm Sorry to hear this has not worked out well. Still think it is worth a pop into your local Seat dealer and get them to plug the uprated ones in for a price myself.

Warrantly work at extended mileage is a bit of a grey area. What is considered a reasonable service life for a major component, a suspenstion arm, would be far higher than for a ruber bush. You may consider giving your local trading standards office a call.

Hope the Fiat works out well. How are the seats for comfort?

Also worth a look (possibly), Toyota will soon have the Yaris available with the 1.8vvti engine slightly detuned (130bhp) from the MR2 / Celica. Could be worth a look if you are going petrol again.

I'll still be around zooty (look out for another Keswick meet in the summer!) , like I said, enjoyed the meets no end, so I'll still come along and give some healthy competition! lol...

note: I still love the car, just lost confidence in the aftersales support/warranty/customer service ect...
