Skoda Warranty, not unlimited miles!!!!

Featured Replies

Personally, If my car is under warranty, the only things I expect to do is fill it with diesel, screen wash and replace the discs and pads as neccessary, everything else as far as i'm concerned, should be covered. otherwise what is the point of 'unlimited milage'?

Regardless of what you think, you accept the T&C's of that warranty when you buy the car.

Does the warranty state that bushes are not covered? I dont think so.

And I can assure you that no matter what the T&C's state, your rights with regard to faulty products/components or items not fit for purpose far outweigh any contractual T&C's.

So no, you dont have to accept the T&C's as the be all, and end all of a dispute.

No you are right it doesn't state that bushes aren't covered but what is does do is list a few example service items and state that it is not an exhaustive list.

You always get on the defensive about SUK warranty claims whenever they crop up, obviously you have some bad experiences in the past and if the comments above are your attitude then I am not surprised.

You have conceded that you find it acceptable to replace brake components which are a wear item, what makes you think a rubber suspension bush isn't?

Things don't last forever, you have to be realistic and reasonable.

Sharkrider - There is a procdeure in the Skoda Binder to replace the bushes as I already said, they should not be expecting to renew the whole console unless thay are telling you that is also damaged. Have you contact SUK customer services? I have always found them to be very reasonable.

Playing devils advocate I can see both sides of the story.

I short if it were me I would buy my own PD160 bushes from SEAT and look for a 50% contribution on the labour charge.

that would certainly be a compromise, but the dealer said I could get standard replacement bushes for

yeah, I've contacted skoda customer services, and they say they will investigate, contact the dealer ect..... haven't heard back from them yet! but they DID say that whatever the warranty dept. stated to the garage will stay, whatever the outcome!

If they were going to sell me two bushes for

Yet my dealer happily replaced my bushes under warranty even though i have modified suspension

steady on. i miss read that first time:rofl:

Just a thought, but if the dealer is stating that the whole arms need replacing, you could argue that as a major component failure on the grounds that a major suspension component needs to be replaced. This would clearly not be a service consumable and you would have reasonable grounds to view this as a warranty issue.

If however they are just replacing bushes in the existing arms, the dealers could possibly argue that

I have to say that i wouldn't be happy with bushes failing inside of two years as to me if you are giving two year unlimited your car should be able to last this time with no problems (or have them repaired by skoda).

I know pugs and citroens that have gone well over two years and 60kmiles and miles without needing suspension bushes. Ditto goes for fords.

mmm, I had a saxo VTR go for three years and 150,000 miles without any suspention parts failing! I agree , it isn't reasonable.

I had always believed that standard UK warranty on cars was 3 years / 60k miles, whichever comes sooner. The fact that you're now over 60k seems sufficient, despite the car being only 20 months old.

I was under the same impression:confused: ...Gotta say after working in several dealers of 'japanese origin' you wouldn't be having this problem!....to be fair I think the customer service etc does vary greatly from dealer to dealer....why not try taking it to a different dealer?!

would be happy with this. the service manager however, says they have never successfully replaced bushes, and won't even try, but they will only do the whole arm!

If they can't replace something simple as a suspension bush.... what else can't they do? Just take the car to another skoda dealership and see what they say.

Yes I do get a bit het up about Skoda warranty claims, for one simple reason, Skoda are a bunch of t*ssers who dont want to know the second your car leaves the fourcourt.

I've owned many many cars over the years, and never have I ever been treated like a piece of **** on bottom of someones shoe like I was by Skoda.

I've never had any problems with warranties with any of the other dealers I've used in the past, and baring in mind our fleet has over 100 cars of varied manufacture I think I'd have sussed out if I was being unreasonable in my demands by now:rolleyes:

And no, I dont consider a suspension bush wearing out at 2 years/60k to be fair wear and tear, it should last much longer than that, as I said, apart from the obvious consumable parts such as brake discs & pads, tyres, fluids, bulbs etc I'd expect everything to be covered, and even then if they were wearing prematurely I'd be asking for action, otherwise the warrantly basically isn't worth the paper it's written on, much like Skoda's.

if all else fails, I will simply take it to a specialist for "just" the bushes,or maybe a seat dealer , for a set of PD160 bushes? or... becauso I'm SO ****ed off, I may just buy a different marque...:mad

Skoda replaced my bushes when it failed the MOT.

The warranty expressly states 2 years unlimited mileage or 3 years 60,000 miles.

I take this to mean that you are covered regardless or mileage in the first two years and up to 60,000 in the third.

Chris

I would try going to trading standards. What the dealer is effectivley telling you is that a major suspension component, the suspension arms, are a service consumable. This may qualify as an unreasonable design and thus be rendered unfit for purpose under the sale of goods act.

If you dont get any joy, you may lever the dealer by withdrawing your servicing from them. I would suggest that if all else fails, go for the Seat or Powerflex bushes and get a decent independent garage to fit them.

Good luck. Know what you mean about them Civics too. Just a little concerned about rear visibility. My Fabia comes up for replacement in October 2008. If no vRS replancement is about then (or if the Fabia gives me an unusual amount of high mileage trouble) I will definately be looking at the Honda with the 2.2 140 bhp derv lump. Maybe a 1 series beemer derv as well, but I prefer to teach people to signal:D

Chris

I've changed plenty of bushes in the past without replacing the consoles and have fitted the PD160 items with no bother.

Use a different dealer mate, the one who said that they will only do consols is talking tosh. The bushes can be replaced, as Stu says there is a job time and method described in the workshop binders.

mmm I took some advice, and tried an 'independant' namely the seat dealership in whitehaven...

he knew exactly what I was talking about, and stated that he had changed console bushes many times on the ibiza under warranty, and was amazed that skoda would not do it! he said he'd do them on my fabia (just the bushes) for £91 +vat, which is a hell of a lot better than the £263 for the whole arms from telfords in Carlisle!

now I'm going to try a different skoda dealership...

note to ChrisGB: I like the wording of your "not fit for purpose" description of a "major suspension component"... thinking carefully about my next e-mail to Skoda customer services....

now I'm going to try a different skoda dealership...

Be interesting to see the outcome.

Good luck.

update: STILL haven't heard from skoda customer services. :finger:

spoke to my local fiat dealership, (He has never had a problem replacing suspension parts under the fiat warranty, no matter what mileage, "I just did some rear bushes on a stilo, nearly three years old...")

there is a red grande punto sporting on it's way to Cumbria..... going for a drive in it when it gets here, it's new and not a demonstrator, so I can't go far (gotta keep it under about 10 miles, unless I'm gonna buy it) , but was offered another model to keep for the day, see if I can live in it all day... had a good chat with the MD about warranty issues, service issues ect.... If I like the sporting, and they offer me more than I owe for my car (
