All in the name of too much work open at once...

Oh how I miss the joy of a dual processor set up :weeping:

Been there with the virtual ram as well... NewsBinPro downloading 8 million headers soon eats up a 1.5 gig page file :D

if you worry about the ram you might want to try OpenBSD.

If you just hate the windows behaviour, install Linux :p

I've just re-installed XP onto a system with 2 160gig sata drives in a raid 0 config - can you say nippy??

It feels like a new, faster machine allround now :)

And I got the greatest bargain ever on the hard drives -

Im toying with the idea of buying one of those WD raptor drives today... 10k rpm, 8mb cache.. SATA.. only bad point is where to put it.. ive already got 7 drives in my system (2 ide, 5 scsi)

The raptors are dam fast....would consider a couple a really good price.

Not fussed over memory, was just surprised to see so much gone considering I had only a few apps open :D

MArk, sadly not true dual :(, just this intel HT trickery. Although it seems to make a difference when doing really intensive tasks...maybe, possibly even slows it down.

Don't want to start benchmarking it as I'll end up spending, where di you get the drives from? Would make a cracking video # drive for this box (the actual purpose of it's build)...

the big biyach is that ive got a nforce 2 mobo, which by all accounts is great... i also have 3x scsi 10krpm drives. and a raid scsi card. but because of a stupid fault with the nforce, i cant write across PCI to the scsi at more than 20mb/s so that pretty much makes the speed of the discs useless.

decisions decisions... 2x7200 sata drives..... 1xraptor..... or 1xnew scsi card. :(

www.pcnextday.co.uk - obviously a mistake on the price as once i had them in my sweaty palms, i checked the site and the price had returned to

Well, ive gone and got myself a Raptor drive... and very pleased i am... its a bit noiseyer than i would like(apparently the new 74gb version has a FDB motor, alot quieter) but ive installed xp on it, and its flying!!!
