Mods - assume

Featured Replies

OK, had my vRS for just on 6 months now, and done 15K enjoyable miles.

Thinking of doing some mods, and wanted to know whether the following list seems sensible. Car is totally standard at the moment, apart from an elegance drawer below the radio. The intention would be to inform insurance to keep it all above board :-

Front Strut brace

Rear ARB

Eibachs

Koni FSD's

Rolling Road remap (Jabba/AMD)

312mm brake conversion ?

Not sure about the brake conversion, and assume this will fit under std wheels ? (Dont really want to go to 17's). Does this affect the brake bias ????

The ideal would be to let one company do the lot (e.g. Jabba), but not sure if one could do everything.

Oh, and obviously I would kiss the warranty goodbye (unless it was something unaffected by the mods etc...).

Thoughts ? What would you do differently ?

Cheers.

RBW.

Seems like a good balance, I would certainly recommend the brake conversion :)

Dunno if the Koni's are better/worse/cheaper/more expensive than the Eibach dampers, I reckon Jabba/AMD/Awesome/JBS could do it all.

If you are near Jabba anyway, it is worth getting them to do it.

One thing you may want to add is an uprated clutch so you are able to use more of the power :)

ahh just noticed your sig in my other post, but if Im uprating the clutch, surely it would make sense to get the LSD at the same time too....

ok, so possibly uprated clutch, Im guessing thats the wrong side of £500 ?

Would definately do the remap, strut brace and Eibachs. The 312mm brakes I think are quite pricey and pretty sure you need to go 17s to get them to fit as the TT had 17's as a minimum. Also sure your warranty would be void if you carried out the mods, although I know my local Skoda dealer actually takes brand new vRS's to Star Performance for remaps for customers, so not sure how a remap affects your warranty.

TT brakes fit just fine behind the standard wheels (I know as I've got them ;))

 Is that not a tight squeeze?

It's fairly tight but there are a fair few that run with 16s on site. There are some bigger brakes like Brembos that won't fit though, and not all 16" wheels would fit.

Must admit I have been tempted a few times to get 17" wheels but mainly because they ought to be able to cope with the power a little better I suppose :)

Do you notice a big difference with the 312 brakes?

It mainly gives much easier to control braking, more 'feel'.

Golfturbo sells them via the site quite regularly :)

Value for money wise I sure would start with the rear ARB, Eibachs and remap. The diving that the standard suspension does makes the standard brakes feel cr*p, they are not really that bad so it's worth trying the standard ones for a bit first :)

If you think the brakes are ok with standard power and you start running 180bhp+ you will be dissapointed with their performance. We all have differing opinions on the brake thing. Personally I like to know I can stop before i make it go fast and I would do this conversion before anything, it's cheap, it's very effective anf it fits fine under 16"'s.

For 1.5k you can do everything you need to make is stop quicker, go faster and handle better.

Brakes, ARB then remap.

Whatever you have left put towards Eibachs.

Front Strut brace - £40

Rear ARB - £200

Eibachs - £150 for springs only

Koni FSD's - £200 at a guess???

Rolling Road remap (Jabba/AMD) - £400

312mm brake conversion ? - £250

Sounds like someone will have some change from his £1.5k. :D Chuck in a green filter and PD160 intake for £50. Might be able to mod the exhaust a bit too - worth doing.

 Is that not a tight squeeze?

TT brakes same as MK1 Octavia vRS, MK1 Octavia vRS has 16" wheels as standard on the estate.

Koni FSD's nearer

I personally wouldn't bother with the front upper strut brace - put the money towards some advanced driving tuition as that's the best mod I've ever done and is transferrable to every car in the future ;):D

Hi ScoobyChris, its interesting that your not the only person to question the benefit of the Upper strut brace.

As for the advanced training, always willing to learn new things, and I have already done IAM in car, Bike, and am a Senior Observer for a local Bike group.

Devonutopia, you have mentioned the Zorst, does anyone know if the 2006 is more restrictive due to the particle filters to make it Euro IV compliant ? Surely in that case it would be of even greater benefit to change it ?

Oh, and of course the PD160 intake !

Wondering about the clutch now....

Cheers

With those under your belt, High Performance Club might be worth a look :D

PD160 intake & green filter are definite must-do mods if you are going for a remap to allow sufficient air to be pulled into the airbox/engine.

Clutch wise, if you have the budget to do it, I would. Get an uprated pressure plate to go with it and it should last very nicely :)

Early TT's also had 16" wheels ;)

He doesnt fancy DIY'ing.... . Ideally get someone like Jabba to do the lot (I think they are fairly near).

Wont get it done till early next year, just musing at the moment. Just want to understand if I throw 1.5K at it, that its better value than changing to something faster (ignoring residuals).

RBW.

That last one is a tricky one ;)

There are faster & better cars out there, which may end up being cheaper due to insurance cost & modification cost.

Speaking for myself here, I never modified a car before the Fabia vRS and I've spent vastly too much money on it to ever get it back. Returning the car back to standard will help with the residuals, but you said to ignore that anyway ;)

For 1.5k I don't think you'll get a much better turbodiesel with similar spec though :)

As cheap as
Actual cost is

Golfturbo is indeed on uk-mkiv as well ;)
