smelly Skodas!!

Featured Replies

This is my third Skoda - two Octavias (01 and 54), and now a Fabia (53) and they all have the same smell from the air vents. The two Octavias both had aircon, so I put it down to that, but the Fabia doesn't, but it still has the same 'musty' smell - especially in the 'recirc' position, and both it and my Octavia seem to get worse just after I've gone round a corner or roundabout! No, I'm not a boy racer - I'm a member of the IAM - so my driving style shouldn't be an issue. It's so disappointing and spoils what are otherwise great cars.

Any thoughts?

Don

We're on our second Skoda, the first was an A5 Octy Elegance 2.0 TDI and didn't whiff at all. The second is a vRS (Mk1) 55 reg and definately has a strange pong from the aircon.

I sorted it (temporarily) by using a can of Comma air con cleaner from Halfrauds.

Serious now! My dad had this problem a few years back with an Audi and just needed the filters replacing and a general air con inspection - there are plenty of specialists that deal with this. It will always be worse on recirc setting as the same smelly air is repeatedly going through the system getting more pungent. I've never (touch wood) had this problem which is caused by bacteria build up in the filters but using your air con on a regular basis can prevent it from happening.

I suspected this, I'll get it looked at. As it happens the Skoda dealer operate an aircon cleaning service.

Worst case, I'll swap the filters myself.. Anyone know its an easy job?

Bearing in mind the age of your car I'd be pushing for a warranty claim.

Am I forgiven for my first gag?!

As a question to the thread starter have you bought your cars second hand? - as cars that have sat unused for a period of time are most likely candidates i'm affraid.

Thats my best case (the warranty claim)

I'd expected the gag t.b.h.... forgiven, of course.
