New 2.0 slxi ECU problems

Featured Replies

Hi Group,

I thought i'd done my homework and found a nice w reg 2.0l slxi with full skoda history.

Looks good inside and out and drives well. The dealer said he'd sort the problem as the ECU light was on.

After reading through this site it seems that the 2.0l isnt the VAGs best engine and does suffer various ECU problems.

My question is: how problematic is the 2.0l petrol engine and how odten could i expect the ECU warning light to show?

Cheers guys

I've had a V reg 2.0 SLXI for 2 years now and the engine warning light has been on since I had it. Spent a fair bit of time and money on it but I cant shift the thing. Car has been running okay though.

Its not the most economical of engines. I have a 20 mile motorway journey to work and depending on my mood and it's I can get anywhere between 28mpg and 35mpg average for the journey.

Its done 80k now and mechanically its pretty sound, a good solid engine, but the electrical side can let it down.

If your going to get a Mk1 I'd go for the Tdi 110 or the later PD130 if you can afford it.
