fuel/oil additives for FABIA 100PD

Featured Replies

HI. ANY ADVISE ON USING FUEL/OIL ADDITIVES ON MY FABIA 1.9TDI PD 100 FOR GENERAL UPKEEP OF CAR.

HELP OR HINDERANCE?

THANKS.

well for a start, you don't need to keep the caps lock on.

to answer your question, millars power plus for diesel is quite good, I also tend to use BP ultrimate.

Agreed, I use a similar combination.

Also there is redex for diesel, IIRC it is blue though. Smells horrid.

Are you having a specific problem?

I read that these additives are a load of rubbish. Especially Redex, apparently there was a large court case in the US that they lost.

I also read that VW don't like you to use ANY additives in their engines (same will go for skoda) Just run it on good juice (avoid supermarket stuff) and give it a boot every now and then to clear it of deposits.

Millers diesel is really good, and I bet VW would keep saying no to additives until they make their own veraity and put a 50% mark up on them

This thing of VW being more expensive when it comes to parts is a load of rubbish. I actually priced up several parts that are the same throughout the Skoda's VW's Seats and Audi's (was a set of pedal rubbers) and VW and Audi came back with the exact same price (cheapest) then skoda were 2nd cheapest and then Seat were the most expensive.

Quite suprising really.

I use VW's quantum synta silver oil when I service my car, the last oil change cost me £22. Not bad for the oil, filter and sump plug. All with nice VW stamps on them for what you'd pay for cheapo oil and filter down your local euro car parts.

And back on topic, a link to backup my previous claims.

Fuels, and fuel additives

Why?

That's a great link link  What a quality page! You seem to be backing up non empirical observations with very poor information on petrol additives in a thread about diesel additives. Your my new hero!

You are however completely correct about VAG policy on such additives in that they say no to everything. Should anyone chose to ignore this and many do, you will find Millers Power Plus is a good product, it's a cetane booster and continual use will provide the user with several benefits. (BTW there are several threads on here regarding cetane rating and how it all works, very interesting if you want to learn something ;) ) As you have also mentioned Redex is cack in a bottle although my opinion is based on real live testing done in various cars over many years. You see, not everything you read on Teh Intarweb is true ;)

As for the oil, just stick to PD grade oil and it will be fine.

The only crazy thing is that EVERY time I took my car to a Skoda dealer for servicing they used additives, and that is against SUK's recommendations & warranty conditions...
