vRS Brakes, couple of questions...

Featured Replies

Morning all. I have been collecting the parts to service the brakes on my 2003 vRS. I now have all the parts I require (front disks and pads, rear pads, copper slip and brake fluid). The front pads (official vag pads) are confusing me slightly. The inner pads (with the metal clips which slot into the caliper piston) look normal and have a plastic anti squeal backing but the outer pads have a self adhesive surface with a peel off cover:confused:

Is this normal? or is it where the plastic backing should be stuck on? If it is normal, I'm guessing I peel the backing off but do I then use copper slip on the back o the pad or not?

The second question is, does anyone know the correct bleed sequence? I have always worked from the furthest away from the master cylinder but my Haynes manual gives two different procedures depending on the setup (but does not explain how to identify which setup I have :o )

Sorry for the dumbass questiong but I wan't to g et it right first time because it's too cold outside to have two goes

peel the backing off , then the pad will stick to the outer part of the caliper

do not use copper slip on the sticky surface , just apply a small amount on the bit of the pad that sits on the slide

Thanks! :)

You shouldn't have to bleed your brakes if your just doing pads and discs. There's no need to disconnect any brake lines etc.

could anyone please tell me whether it is better to use genuine siscs and pads or not as i have priced them up and they are megga money could you please inform me of where you got yours from and how much you paid if you dont mind me asking as i have goto do mine soon

many thanks:)

I am bleeding the brakes because they are due a fluid change, not because I am changing the pads. Thanks for your help anyway.

Don't suppose anyone does know the correct sequence?

On my previous vehicles I have aways used either original parts or good quality after market stuff - Mintex are my personal non dealer favorites. After I was picked up off the floor in my local Skoda parts depot I sourced all my parts from eBay. They are all original VAG components and were all purchased with large savings. My advice would be to check ebay regularly and buy as and when the parts come up, unless you are in a hurry obviously...

I got rear vented discs and pads from GSF, very reasonable and quality is fine :)

Ah I see. From doing my bora it's front left, rear right, front right, rear left.....IMMSMR

does the vRS have 2 or 4 channel ABS?? if it has 4 channel then surely there isn't a reqiuired series as all brakes have seperate lines. when i did my brakes, my mates brakes, the brakes on myother car and my brothers brakes i just did the back two and then the front two no particular side first :)

I've just finished mine. I did NSR, OSR, NSF, OSF. I put lots of new fluid through. Also stripped and cleaned the front brakes and replaced the pads. I took it round the block (10 miles round infact :P) and although I was taking it very easy on the brakes it's clear that they are soooo much better than they were. They feel alot more powerful. I'm looking forward to a few hundered miles time when they bed in properly so I can see just how good they are :)

Thanks to all who offered advice!
