roof rack system

Featured Replies

has anyone any experience with roof rack on a new Octavia? The fitting seems to be into four 6mm threaded holes but it looks as though when the bolt is in these the head will be in the way of the door seal. Also what takes the load? does it sit on pads on the roof??? I was hoping not to damage the paintwork or the door seals !! anyone tried this?

I traded from a fabia erlier this year and the fabia has a different system in slots in the roof. ( I have the THULE adaptors for the fabia if anyone wants them)

The Thule fitting details can be seen here and here

Looks like they put the load on to the roof.

Don't quote me but AFAIK there was a Rev B as there was issues with the initial OEM ones damaging the paint. Maybe someone else can confirm.

I've ordered roof bars when got the car (Oct 2006) from a dealer. Still waiting for them to arrive. Now you got me worried.

If anyone who use them could post some experience it would be great. I need them to transport two bicycles.

I use the Octy 2 roof bars, but if they are used as supplied the paintwork around the sockets above the doors is likely to be damaged due to the metal roofrack clamps being tightened directly onto the bodywork (metal on metal). To avoid this I cut up an old rubber inner tube to make protective pads between the clamp and the car's bodywork. When I had an Escort, the Ford roof racks were supplied with rubber pads for this purpose. Don't know why Skoda don't do the same.

I don't get Skoda. How can they supply something that is basically going to scratch your paintwork? Should the onus really be on us, their customers, to cover up their oversights?

Hence the reason there was a Rev B or what ever they call it.
