OK guys you may know but I've been looking to get a CD changer for the wifes Fabia which came with a non-changer-compatible headunit.

After shopping around on ebay and here I've got a cheap Symphony headunit with changer control, a VAG changer cable and a Panasonic changer. The problem is that the changer is an 8 disk one rather than a 6 disk one (crap ebay description) so has 16 pins and won't connect.

Hence I'm now looking for another changer on fleabay and am trying to work out if a Golf Mk4 changer will be OK. The cable is a VAG mini din to 12 pin rectangular but I'm being told that most Golf changers only have 10 pin sockets, although some have space for 12 pins... So anybody any advice before I make another duff purchase or does anybody know from personal experience?

I think if it's the OEM VW one they would all be pretty much the same.

Can you get the seller to email you a pic of the connector? Make sure you get the cartridge with it as well as these go for circa £20 each.
