Octavia: little problems and comments

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I'm from Oporto, Portugal.

I have a 2002 4x4 Octavia estate (model Nature). Almost no problems until

now (only 30000 miles now) but I would like to here opinions about a few points

- About 4 months ago the engine had a sudden and complete power loss

(when driving in a highway at about 100km/h). Ignition off, then on,

and everything was ok ever since!

- The windscreen washing plastic container has a little hole (about 2mm), don't

know how it happened. It seems the plastic degraded with time. I find it strange

and Skoda will certainly want to sell me a new vase+electric engines+... really

expansive. Did this happen with someone?

- I find that the car handling is better with a higher than recommended tire pressure,

I put 30Kg/cm2 (Lb/sqi???). What's your experience on this?

Thanks a lot, and sorry for my English:cool:

Welcome to Briskoda. :D I have a similar car. The windscreen washer bottle comes without the electric pumps and should cost around 40 Euros, which isn't too expensive. I normally use a tyre pressure of mid way between that recommended for 2 people and fully loaded for everyday driving. If the car is fully loaded, I would use the recommended (higher) pressures.

Did the engine cut out completely or did it go into limp mode with very reduced power?

PS: Your English is fine! :)

he has another thread in the Welcome section , the engine is a 1.9tdi but he doesn't say in there whether it went into limp mode or not

Hi

Thanks for your help. I forgot to tell the engine is a 1.9TDI.

The engine continued working, but (:rolleyes:how do I say it in english? in frenh "au relenti").

Earlier I experienced a few times small and short (1 or 2 seconds) power reductions,

but never such complete power loss.

By the way, I intend to change soon the camshft belt, Skoda told me it should be changed after

60000 miles or 4 years, is'nt this too conservative? My car has almost 5 years and 30000 miles.

Can the state of the belt be inspected without much work?

Thank's again

Mine is a 1.8T. The cambelt change interval can be as high as 120,000 miles for the 1.8T engine - if the condition is OK when it is inspected at each service and if that distance is completed in 4 years or less. My car's was changed at just 18,738 miles but at 4 years and 4 months. Unfortunately yours needs changing too even though the mileage is low. The belts do deteriorate with age.
