Auto Dimming Exterior Mirror

Featured Replies

I happened to be reading through the manual lastnight and I read that the exterior Mirrors dim together with the Automatic Dimming Interior Mirror. see pg 80

Is this only on certain models ?

it only comes on the L&K models for some reason

Typical, I wonder if theres any additional things required for this to work ?

I think it might be the same unit as the elegance one (puddle lights), but with the extra glass.

The glass is over £150 each IIRC

Mine isn't L&K. It's Sport and has dimming exterior mirrors

Do you notice the auto dimming effect if you press the button on the rear view mirror. It always looks the same on my car at night - just a slightly green tint . Read that it switches to normal view when rear gear is selected but mine stays the same????

Mine was doing that when it was new. With engine running I switched it off and then back on again, and it's OK ever since.

I only notice the auto dimming on the rear-view mirror working if there is a car behind with lights on. I have an L&K and hadn't realised that the exterior mirrors also "auto-dim". Probably a reflection(!) on how often I use my mirrors.:o

Yeah, when a car is behind, it really does work. Only started using it in the last couple of weeks. Took the rear sun blind down and decided to see if the mirror works and it does.

Just a shame that on the Elegance the side mirrors don't dim.

Until you have to replace the whole mirror unit!

A fast approaching motorist who was using most of my half of the road, leaving me no room to get out of the way, demolished mine as our mirrors collided. It cost me some

Depending on the height of the middle headrest can mess about with the mirror working. Also someone with a BIG head sitting in the back

That's because you live in Portugal. The OctyII over there is much better specced.

Equally, turning on the rear passenger light will force the mirror(s) to dim down even with no cars behind you.

I didn't realise how good these were until I had the car fully loaded the other day and was blinded with my passenger mirrirs where they weren't dimming!

Just picked up my Octy 2.0tdi L&K

Asked the guy showing me around the car about the dimming door mirrors, he just said it was the interior one.

Is he wrong?

No. According to Skoda UKs website, this is what the L&K has over and above the Elegance trim:

Full leather upholstery (inc active headrests & heated front seats)

- Multi-function steering wheel (inc small leather pack and Maxi-Dot display)

- Light assistant (inc come home function and tunnel light)

- Electric memory drivers seat

- Electric memory door mirrors

mine definitely has dimming mirrors

Exactly and there definately seems confliting messages from the Skoda UK website.

Well I've checked mine and they definately work!! So the dealer is wrong

i think they must have forgotten to put it on the brochure and cant be arsed spending money to change it. Just hope mine never break!

I just fold mine in every time I park up!!! :o

I just leave mine mucky, handy this time of year cos I cant be ar*ed cleaning the car every 2 days cos of the state of it - why oh why did I choose Storm Blue.

I have self cleaning front wheels tho, they are always a lot shinier than the rears, is this option unique to the 4x4's?
