Skoda Fabia Reliability Index

Featured Replies

Just came across this...

Reliability Index :: how reliable is your car?

Makes interesting reading - Especially since a quarter of all faults found on a Skoda are electrical.

Just shows a blank table mate

...a quarter of all faults found on a Skoda are electrical.

I'd much rather an electrical fault than a mechanical one! I bet battery, bulbs, mass airflow sensor, coolant temp sensor and evap temp sensor make up quite a large proportion of those - all fixable for nothing more than the cost of the parts, thanks to the info on here! :)

Try doing the car search again and then re-do the link again, that may be better !

Just had a look - Axles and suspension get the higest rating, no big suprise give the state of the roads !

would front ARBs and bushes be included in axles and suspension by any chance:(

Plus

1/ The Fabia has been out quite a while, and to some extent the Reliability Index survey's results are affected both by this 'advanced age' of the vehicles and that initially there were a lot of teething troubles.

2/ If you read between the lines on the Honest John breakdown you'll note that the problems are mostly petrols and, of those, mostly up to 2003.

3/ Parker's Guides quote

The earliest Fabias had some reliability problems but these were resolved within the first couple of years -should now provide a high level of dependability

It does make for scary reading to see all the problems with the furby, but everything has its problems to be honest. I do think that these types of guides are handy if you look beyond the doom and gloom of the faults and use them to your advantage when buying a new car, and check them on the test drive for these faults - or where you stand with your warranty if they occur. Im a fussy bugger when buying a car, and they have to tick all of my boxes for me to be keen so as long as the fabia is the car for you then its a perfect car. I originally looked at buying a new VW Fox and was very impressed with the build quality and comfort but dissapointed in the bland styling, low performance and dismal visibility caused by a large front pillar supporting the front window, so it was a no for me.

The Furby is a great little car, and as much as I have had problems I would still buy another Skoda in the future - perhaps even a brand spankin new one! :D

I have to say that I got one of the first models a V plate 2000 petrol model and I have had dozens of issues - And its only ot thirty k miles on the clock... So iexected hassle free driving.

I wouldnt buy anothe Fabia at least nothing before an 03 plate....

I did a lot of research before I bought, hope / assume everyone does.

My criteria were - reliability, diesel, nippy, not too large (not in that order).

My shortlist was

Fabia (Elegance to be honest, but as they command nearly the same 2nd hand price as a vRS we got a vRS), Almera SXE TD, Focus TDCi, Ibiza TD, Polo TD, Golf TD, Corolla TD (whatever the nomenclature - I forget).

A thing that surprised me were the owner reports on the VW Golfs. Other than the 4motion diesel variant everything else got panned by owners e.g had 3 will never buy another, quality terrible, breakdown after breakdown. THEY do not like the more recent Golfs.

(I'll presume the 4motion diesel is built elsewhere going off the favourable reports these got).

Ford Focus got very mixed owner reviews despite excellent Reliability Index rating.

Ditto for Toyota Corolla.

Almera - v.v. reliable, nasty plastics, poor ride, totally uninspiring.

Seat - good reliability, ride - make friends with a good chiropractor.

Polo - way overpriced.

I would get a diesle VRS - Heard very good things about them.

Also the Toyota Yaris are very nice too ...

Well, mine's pretty solid still. Coming up to 6 years old (well, bits of it are... ) and as long as problems don't progress beyond the odd popped sensor here and there, I'll be happy.

From what I've read it should be reliable - you've rebuilt it about six times !

Tinkerer a la extreme mode - as DelBoy might say.

Compared to my old 2000MY Fabia TDI, my current vRS has been much less reliable, and the problem areas have all been those which were changed in order to produce the vRS - front brakes, suspension etc.

But the reality is five warranty claims in 2 1/2 years and a hell of a lot of fun in between. My '04 Fabia vRS will be a tough act to follow, and I don't see anything else on the market at the moment which could replace it.

I got one of the first models a V plate 2000 petrol model .

Me too , registered Feb 2000 , 34500 on the clock , issues so far in 18 months , a new battery(free , under used car warranty) , steering rack and indicator stalk, thats it. ;)

im lookin into buyin a vrs and im a bit concerned with all the issues peeps are talkin about. should i buy new or 2nd hand for best relibility and wat are dealers like for warrenty issues
