Help! My air-con stinks!!

Featured Replies

I am upgrading to a octy vrs tfsi in feb-march from my present car (vw bora sport 1.9tdi 115) and am at the moment starting to get it ready for sale but just of recent a horrible odour has been coming from my air-con. Has anyone encountered this problem and if so does anyone know how to rectify it. Help much appreciated as it really does smell of ***!!

I think this is common with AC systems? Especially if you havn't used it in a while. I think if you let it run for a while it will go away?

AC systems can sometimes have a build up of bacteria if not used for a while. There is a product which you spray into the ducts (try Halfords) which you could try but from what ive heard it can sometimes be hard to get rid of.

Good luck with it.

Agh dont say it!! Just as im about to get rid. Will try both suggestions posted so far. As long as i dont have to rip anything apart and pay a small fortune for doing it, idc! Thanks lads.

Usualy, dealer does the cleaning of AC system. Not sure about VW, but my previous Toyota dealer does it very cheap.

Call your local dealr and ask. If they do it ask for how much.

Keep us informed

Long drive, run it very very cold for 10 minutes, then very very hot for 10 minutes, i'd also give the comma can a go and put the thing on econ 5 minutes before you get home to let it drain.

Also check the pollun filter hasn't got rather damp over recent days.

I used the Comma can on mine and it got rid of the odour completely.

Will be using it again at the end of the summer to keep on top of it.

We have had the problem a few times in our Laguna and it's been resolved either by replacing the pollen filter, which had got completely clogged up, or by squirting the antibacterial cleaning stuff down the air vents in the car.

Hope one of them works for you.
