Lydden Hill This Weekend

Featured Replies

I know i have been asked a few times before about lydden hill events.

I am racing this saturday (14th).

We start practising @ 9.00am, and then start racing about 10.30am.

It promises to be a very exciting day as there is also a stockhatch vs stockrods challange at the same time (rallycross cars against hot rods)

If anyone off here does turn up, please come and say hello (might be a bit busy, but i won't bite)

Look out for me..

Did the hammer get much use?

seemed to go ok for him but will let him speak for himself...

Dont know where you are based but if you are intertested Tom Airey who was British if not European Rally cross champion still has a set of rollers in his garage & does a bit of tuning for people from time to time. He played with my BX19 GTI many years ago & it went really well afterwards. He specialised in Minis with some awesome big engined ones, staggered bores etc to get max cc out of a std block

Hes about 15 miles from Winchester, I think he trades as Airey Tuning

If you are interested but cant find his no PM me & I will find it for you

This was my first real experiance of the highs & lows of motorsport.

Heat 1

Started from 5th on the grid. I got off to a blinding start and got up to 2nd position by the first corner!! I held 2nd place till the 2nd lap until i went through a big water splash, which got the dizzy wet & the car then only ran on 2-3 cylinders. I limped round for a lap till the car came back to life, but it was too late then (i also spun the car too on this last lap). I finished in 6th.

Heat 2

Started from pole position. Again another great start and i lead the pack for a full lap :). I then got passed by a more experianced driver on the 2nd lap, but managed to hold on to 2nd place till the chequered flag!! (the boy did well :D )

Heat 3

Unfortunatley this is where the problems started.... :(

I got water in the engine bay in the previous races which got into the coil HT lead. When i left the pits and started to line up on the grid the car ground to a halt and i failed to make the 3rd race :thumbdwn:

"B" final

The good news is i made the final

Again i started from 5th on the grid and got off to a great start again. I squeezed between the cars infront (feeling like i was going to get sandwiched at anytime) and managed to get into 2nd position by the first corner. Then it all went wrong, i got shunted up the back (no real damage) and this dislodged the coil HT lead again... I was out

So to sum it all up..

I did better than expected and if the water had not got into the engine bay i would have done really well. But both myself and the car seemed quick and we will be ready to race again at croft in 2 weeks.

Si, buy a set of marigolds, small size. Cut the ends of the fingers and with some laccy bands, they make a great waterproof cover for dizzies! :D

Sorry I couldn't make it, something else cropped up. :( I'd even got the sticker in the car for you :D

How about from scrappy racers...tuppa wear box..wires in one side, sealed with stuff, lid on...allows easy maintenace of electrials quickly.

Seeing it was one of those eureaker moments, so simple yet so brilliant...they took some deep water challenges and stayed running fine. All electrials were in seperate tupaware boxes :D

:buttkick: before you ask si (NO) mother went mad last time i took one of her boxes, but hey it looks ok in the puggy now its been painted red  Anyway thats my idea ,stealing my ideas just so you think you can get away from me,well think again helmet :finger: see this, this is my back, get use to it cause this is all you ll see of me
