Amp mounting

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I need to make some room for a pushchair etc in the boot of the vrs. This is a problem as i also want to keep my sub and amp for the long trips to work etc. I was thinking of replacing my dvc kicker sub with a small active unit but this will never be as good i wouldn't have thought. At the minute the amp is on top of the sub box so if i need to take it out quick i have to remove the main fuse, then all the connections to the amp and lift it all out together.

If i mounted the amp to the back of the seat i could just take the speaker wires off and lift only the sub out. PROBLEM what the hell is the back of the seats made from. Its hard but also feels like its got holes in it too. Other cars i have had have been all metal or hard wood backs.

Has anyone mounted an amp to the back of the seat and how did you do it?

Thanks in advance!

another option like i have done is build a false floor, using the exsiting floor cover to mount the amp too and using some 10 mm ply (cant remember the exact size) can then place the sub onto this?

never liked the idea of an amp on the back of a seat if u got some stuff loaded into the boot its more then likely damage the amp, i pretty sure ive seen a couple of pics of fabs with amps mounted like this

The seat back is metal , and you can get some quick release connectors to fit to the speaker wires so you don't have to mess around unscrewing terminals.

have a look at neutrik speakon connectors, they are very robust connectors

Thanks for the ideas, I have always used the false floor idea before as it also gives a good base to screw a multichange etc too, however this does solve the issue with mounting the amp and easy uninstallation of the sub but won't help when i need my spare wheel. I had a total mission trying to get it out the other day. Trying to lift the sub and amp as well as lifting the boot floor and dragging the wheel out.

As mentioned the back of the seat isn't the best place for it but it will do the job just right. I also thought the idea of the connectors was good. I already have a quick release one on the speaker cable for the sub but if i did the same with all the amp connections it would just unplug quickly. I also wouldn't have to tape the end of the power lead to stop it shorting.

Feel free to keep the ideas coming. Thanks for your help. I will post my results when i have sorted it all out!

Heres a thought, if i was to fix the amp to the seat, how can you take the seat backs out to make life easier when screwing it in etc. I know the seat bases come out but what about the backs?
