Does anyoneknow a good Ford forum?

Come and join the ex-Skoda owners over on Main Index - Mondeo Enthusiasts Group - Powered by FusionBB, John. You'll find me loitering in the Technical section dispelling myths about rolling roads and standard power outputs :o:rofl:

Anything with the 2.2 155 TDCI is group 13.

Have you actually gone as far as getting quotes for anything yet Mark? As I don't find the group system tells the whole story any more....

If you want altea info, have at look at the Altea forum on Altea - SEAT Cupra.net .

You will get honest opinions good and bad. :)

Based on the Mondy platform IIRC?

So I have read. But - and I don't dislike the Mondeo's looks - far more handsome. For what should be one of the most boring sorts of car (mid range saloon/hatch) it is jolly pretty.

i quite like the mondeo.

we have owned our bora for a while now, its been a great car, mpg is good and build quality has been brilliant, insurance is low aswell which is very nice :)

Good advice, my last car was grp 17-19 depending on insurer and it was no more expensive to insure than my Octy. Age has a bearing here though I think.

I'll be getting quotes when i have narrowed the cars down.

Thinking the fords will be chepaer to repair and so cheaper to insure at a guess though.

You can get a brand new zetec climate focus with 2.0TDCI for £13500, brand new!!!!

Agreed, the 2.2ST Mondeo has cost me no extra to insure than the 1.9 PD130 Superb.

That will be worth about

Well tried altea and quite liked it, however the centre console protrudes into my knee when on the rest :( Think thats out.

The altea was a 2.0 sport, and i have been driving a 1.8TDCI MK I focus today, which I have to say outhandles and outdrives the altea and even the leon by a huge margin.

Ammusingly the VW dealer called me to see if i was interested in a GT TDI to which i pointed out i wasn't in a position to do that any more lol

Onto the next cars...

Have you driven a Mondeo yet? My cousin got one a while back (admittedly a petrol) but I was a passenger in it on a 300 mile trip , and I found the interior comfortable , and the Zetec trim gave just enough 'toys'. The dash looks good and seems well put together. I cannot comment on the drive , as I never got the chance , but if I was after a car that size , then it would definately be on my list , especially at group 9 insurance ( same as Fabia vRS)

Nope mondeo is on my todo list along with a MK II Focus.

Just need to think of good diesels that are cheap to insure, safe and reliable.

VAG are two of them, but Ford produce ones that are cheaper to insure by sounds of things.

Just had a look at mondeo and focus...

Focus no longer has climate control on any model except as optional equipment :o

That was a bit of a shock, still the mondeo is a pretty nice car, although the one i saw (53 plate just so i could see it) looks a bit dated inside.

Does anyone know (Chris etc) how much the focus has changed since the 53 plates to the mor recent ones (eg 55/06)

They updated the Mondy again, I think from 05 plates onwards, inc the interiors. Not radically but I think they look pretty good. Sounds like they've got better spec levels than the current Focus too. I've had a few as longer term demos (10 days) and as work hire cars, and even the Zetec has enough bells and whistles. Must say I very much like the leather and climate of the Ghia X though.

The Focus Mk2 is quite a step up from the Mk1, IMO, and I've owned a Mk1. Switchgear and finish look to have improved.

Hope this helps?

Steve

Just noticed this,

Another vote for the Mondaneo. Having driven most of the recent rep box's I am still glad to get back in the Mondeo. Although I really enjoyed the new Accord. Dunno what insurance the 2.2CDTi is tho. A quick trader search and it seems you can get a 2006 model for around the £10k.

accord is too expensive on the insurance, phoned up and got a couple of quotes.

Mondeo is actually cheaper than focus too :S

Tried the following:

- Trade sales

- Drive the Deal

- Motor point

And none of them have any any Octy II Elegance that I can see with a 2.0 TDI.

After going around most of the dealers all I can say is that the prices they are asking for these second hand, even 3 years old is quite frankly ridiculous.

You can get a new one from DTD for less that a dealer is asking on a 1 year old one in some cases :o

Anybody got any other suggestions of good places to look for a car at a decent price. At this rate I will either be buying a focus if they are around at the right price, or be jacking in driving until I can afford a newer car.

I know it's miles from you, but have you tried Fords of Winsford? www.fow.co.uk

And no, they don't just sell Fords - that was the name of the guy who started up :) First of the car supermarkets really - I know lots of people who've bought from them and it's a recommended place.

HTH,

Steve

How's the recovery going anyway - still a few aches and pains or are you back to A1?

Still painful, find i can't keep sat down for too long without getting a back.

Most of the cars I can find are out of my price range, so i'm thinking of giving up driving until i can afford a newer safe car.

Called into FOW about 3 yrs ago as i was passing, made to feel very welcome even when i said "just killing time" was given a coffee had a chat. They get their cars from dealers and private sales. They have a couple of buyers that travel around to find cars.

The mondeo ST150 2.2 diesel is the best of the bigger cars, excellent build (better than VAG) and reliability, excellent handling, excellent performance and cheep cheep second hand
