Rear Sunblind

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Just picked up my Octavia II yesterday, however in all the excitement I forgot that the dealer had forgotten to fit the rear sunblinds!

Just curious to the people who had these fitted...are they worth the money, and are they worth having?

As I particulary don't want to take it back just to get fitted (assuming its just a dealer option) And I can get it fitted anytime I want

Cheers

Well, I have the rear sunblind from new. Car got out of the factory with it fitted, not the option. I thought it's nice thing and put it on as soon as I got into the car. It was a sunny day and looked usufull (I thought). Then, in the night came nightmare. It was difficult to see things on the rearview mirror (I was driving in the city). Auto-dimming function on rearview mirror wasn't working. So I had to stop and take it off. Auto-dimming function took care of headbeams from cars from behind.

It was in October and since then I haven't used it at all.

My conclusion is that it will be usefull only in the summer when car is parked. But, do you always have a time to open the trunk and put it on and later off when you want to drive away?

The other thing is that friend of mine ordered it to put later on his Octy and when part arrived he gave up as it needed drilling two holes in trim on the top of the trunk door and dealer said it would provoke rattle with sunblind on (it's their experience). Mine comes factory fitted and two hooks on the top are integrated on the trim.

Finaly, if I didn't have I wouldn't miss it at all.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Thats what I thought, the fixings I saw in the garage looked pretty secure.

But I was thinking rather than get the little round ones with winnie the pooh on them, it would be nicer to get proper fitted ones.

I'll see what the garage says about it, because the last thing I want is a rattle! I might ring another garage to see what they say about the rear sunblind, to see if they order it as a factory option or a dealer fit one. Then negotiate some refund or a different item, as I was quite interested in the Boot Mat!

Right!! I've just had a look and I do have the rear sunblind actually installed in the car.

However when I went to a garage previously (different one) there were blinds on the rear passenger doors, which I thought was part of the rear sunblind. Are they part of the same thing or do they have to be ordered seperately?

Spoke to the dealer I ordered the car from, and he goes they are a seperate options and he doesn't know what part it is. Will find out on Monday!!

I've never even seen side blinds. I'd like to have some of those, as I have a pair on my company car (new Renault Megane Estate), and they do a difference. On my company car they're always on as they don't cut any of my vision and protect interior from the sun. But in Megane the are integrated in the door panel (inside) and they just roll out if you want to use them. I dont see how are they for Octy. Please, if you find out post it here so I might go for them too. Also, see how are they fitted. I guess the are fitted outside the door panel, otherwise you need either other door panel or cut the channel on the top of them which don't seem right.

I had the rear sun blind installed from new as factory fitted option.

I think we have used it once! so next time around I would pass on the option.

Yeah considering when I saw them in another car, and asked what option they were it got quoted as the rear sunblind. I'll try and find out what they were as it still sounds like a good option compared to the rear one! (Which I would not get again if I had the option)

But the side window ones were kept in by little clips all around the window, not sure how easy it would to keep them in and out...but I tend rarely to have passengers in the back so thought this would be a good option as opposed to the tiny ones!

On a mission to find them now as I know they exist!!!

I have the rear sunblind and again, it was a factory fitted option and the reason I had it installed was because we have a young baby who is in a rear facing child seat and we thought it would be better for her. We were very pleased with it and now the weather is poor, I have unclipped it so its folded down, but late last summer, I found it kept the car nice a little cooler and also took away sun glare from behind.

It's not cheap, but unlike some of the ones you can buy in shops, it not only looks better, but also, it does the job.

Great for the summer and easily unclipped for the winter. Personally, I found the rear view was not impeeded by it and the fact that the rear view dimming mirror doesn't function when it's up was not a problem either, the sun blind acts as a dimmer anyway.

Also have one, and have had them in all my previous Cars very useful especially with young children or babies in Car Seats.

My only criticism of the Skoda one is that the rear of the blind or outside facing side is black and absorbs heat whilst all my previous ones had been white to reflect heat.

I like the way it covers the full window and is not like some of the cheaper ones with two blinds and a gap down the middle.

This what you mean?

OE Sunshades Ltd | www.oesunshades.com

I got a set off ebay for a tenner. I was lucky - I believe they originally sold for around 60 to 70 quid.

They're ace. They're permanent fixtures in my "cargo" windows and the rear passenger jobs go in for summer (make you're eyes go a bit funny if you're in the back looking out through them, otherwise I would never have them out).

The rear quarters are held in place by interior trim, the rear passangers are held in by 2 clips per window and the rears have one stick-on clip each. Doddle to get in and out. Stowage is the issue. I could do with a good protective bag.

Seem pretty durable, but I did somehow get a hole in one of the passenger ones - maybe one of the kids picked at it...

OOOoooh they the one!! Apart from these were all one peice!

Thinking it may not have been a skoda bit now as the car I test drove was a sales persons demo car! (VRS TDI Northampton)

Plus the whole window thing was onepiece!

But I like the idea of having it in 2 parts!

Just to clarify...

Side shades are 1 piece per window, and hatch shade is 2 pieces.

I have an estate so more windows...

OK Finally got a reply from that company... I might get them when I actually need them :o

Dear Sir

Thank you for your enquiry regarding sunshades for your 2006 Skoda Octavia 5dr.

Vimto2000 - did you get your shades from this company in the end?

If so what do you think of them? I'm thinking of using them too.

Have you got any pictures of them fitted to your car?

Were they easy to fit, - what did you have to do?

Thanks

Hi Jonno VRs, didn't get them in the end. Thought they were a bit on the expensive side at the moment as I can't justify spending that much on sunshades. As at the moment, its just me on my own in the car. Rarely have anyone sitting in the back.

MrkyMrk thinks they are really good tho.

Sorry couldn't be more help!

If you get the Skoda Octavia Accessories Catalogue from your local dealer you will find the side window blinds listed - part numbers:

Hatch - KCD 609 004

Estate - KCD 629 002

In each case a set is

They are a dealer fit, so yes. Car was delivered from the factory and then the dealer put them in. You can take them off fairly easily. (this is for the passenger door windows, rather than the pull down blind that can be fitted to the rear hatch).

Nope, but will take some at the weekend, and post them.
