Tyres..!!

Featured Replies

Hello..

Just need someones advice on this.. I have 225/35/17 falkens on my Fabia, they look amazing in most conditions.. one of the tires now is screwed up and it'll probably stay for a week or so before it blows up:( lol,

the problem is 225/35/17 is not available in the whole country:mad:  , i checked with all tyre dealers and couldnt find.. an order will take a month or so to get it imported... my question is which would be the better choice? 215/40/17 or 205/40/17?.. 215/40 is 2.5% bigger than my 225/35 tyres is that a problem?

This is how 225/35's looked

and can someone pls post a close picture of 215/40 or 205/40 on their cars??

thanx alot :)

Looking at the amount of room you have - 215/40 R17 would be fine. I use that size and it's ideal. A bit more sidewall. I've not got a pic to hand so you'll have to take my word for it. ;)

Thanx alot for the advice... I was thinking of the same thing too coz i need to fill the space I have in the arches... What tyres do u thing would be best for hot weather? I hated falkens because they're really aweful when its really hot outside..

yokohoma's are good for the hot weather you have, but they wear out quick ;)

they would actually become sticky to the touch with the sort of temps you have, so grip would be huge!

and can someone pls post a close picture of 215/40 or 205/40 on their cars??

thanx alot :)

This any help?

I'm glad I saw this thread, coz that's the size of tyre I was looking to put on my Fabia.

I put a set of 7.5 x 17 RS4 replicas on and they have 205's stretched onto them. Looking at the amount of rim that is still proud of the sidewall, I think I need 10mm each side.......therefore 225's will fit the bill. I though 225/40's may be a bit much and did notice that 225/35's were available.

Have you had any problems with the 225/35's?? (clearance, etc)

I'd go with 215/40/17 as well. Ran those on my S3 Avus rims on the Fabia and had no complaints.

I would have thought you'd hit rubbing issues with 225s in the Fabias arches. And a 35 profile is a bit extreme for me, there's hardly any sidewall there! The roads in the UAE are probably better than they are here, I'd hope anyway! Wouldn't want to hit a pothole running those...

Never had any problem with 225/35's, they're jus fantastic and they lok great, also never had any rubbing issues or anything else, the rim protection is poor and you have to forget about anything called comfort coz of the sidewall..

Thanx for the pictures bryand,

I think i'd go for 205/40's, The car will be much higher than it's now if i fit 215/40's... thanx everyone for the help :)

Sidewall heights:

205/40..........82mm

215/40..........86mm

225/35..........78.75mm

225/40..........90mm

The difference between 205/40 and 215/40 will hardly make your car MUCH higher....would you really notice 4mm??

I realise that the 7.25mm difference between 215/40 and 225/35 will make quite a substantial difference to ride comfort due to the lack of flexibility in the sidewall, I was just a bit concerned that 215 would still look stretched on the rims.

I know the current trend in modifying circles is to have a really wide rim with the tyres really stretched onto them, but while I think it may look ok(ish) on a Euro-look Golf, I don't think it has the same appeal on a Fabia.

I think my rims are cheap crappy copies with big thick castings on the edges!!! :(

Well the 4 mm wouldnt make a big of an issue to the ride height to me, but the real problem is, I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this, but if u look jus right behind the rear wheel on the left side of a LHD fabia, U'll notice that right next to the mudflap, u'll notice a sharp corner thats very close to the tyre, the difference i meaured today was hardly around 10 mm, so that will make the problem, the 215/40 with 8 mm n lots of thread more than 225/35 might be the problem, I'll try to post a photo tomorrow, I'm getting the wheels by next week, I'll probably go for the falkens ZE512, been reading reviews about them and everyone is very happy with the performacnce.. Yup.. Falkens ;) i know some ppl in here love to make fun of falkens lmao
