Yes it is, seen a few of the VNT15's give up though so you have to be carefull.

would that also be the case for a remapped fabia 1.4tdi? i just am surprised ^^ it has less cylinders and less bhp :P

That is for the 1.4 TDi, little turbo.

The 3 cyclinder 1.4 TDI in the A2 I drove was pretty nippy, definitely could tell it had been mapped. There is no way it could stay close to my Fabia vRS though (it is mapped too and it has a hybrid turbo & FMIC).

There are quite a lot of differences between that engine and the PD100/130 series ones, which will limit what can be done sensibly.

Now we all know that with a fairly unreasonable amount of effort you can do some amazing stuff (just look at Devonutopia/Jason's PD100-started car )

A little tweak of the power could be fun, if you want it to be reliable a slightly larger turbo may be worth considering. Also IIRC the injectors will be maxed out a lot sooner on that one

As the car is a 5 speed vs the 6 speed in the vRS, it would be interesting to see the results

it was my old polo 1.4 tdi in question. had it on the rollars and it developed 98bhp and 247nm of tourque peak.

for a little engine 1422cc 6v 3 cylinder in such a heavy car it didnt half shift.

dont get me wrong it wasnt a supercar but it did give your average joe in his saxo vtr a run for his money.

i bought a modified file for the polo from www.tuningchip.co.uk and flashed the ecu myself and then drove trouble free for 40k untill i traded it in for a polo gt.

I would imagine it to drive quite like a PD100 1.9PD, with a roaring kinda sound, pulling quite nicely to about 4.5k rpm.

Loved the way that A2 engine sounded, quite unique

yer almost like a vr6 burble:D but with the obvious diesel chugg..

think the 5 speed gearbox was suited to 100bhp cos it did seem quicker than a pd100 polo that i test drove when looking for a replacement.

good car, pulls well, looks nice, cheap insurance, good fuel economy and no service for 20k............. why did i get rid of it?? :mad::mad::mad:

It wont be quicker - but it will be a LOT quicker than the standard performance for that engine

- weight (they both have similar power to weight ratios)

- traction putting that power down

In the Audi A2 they've got it putting out 90BHP as standard. Having driven a 1.4TDI Polo, I could see a chipped 1.4 keeping up with a standard VRS up to 70 easily.

well the 1.4 tdi engine is the same as a 1.9tdi engine just minus a cylinder and a smaller turbo.

ie 1896cc/4 = 474cc per cylinder

1422cc/3 = 474cc per cylinder.

so a polo with a chipped engine producing approx 100bhp would have the same power to weight ratio as the vrs because although the fabia produces more power it also weighs more.

also the polo has a 5 speed box and fabia has 6 speeds which translates to more gear changes in the fabia, but the advantage for the fabia comes in at high speeds because at 100mph the polo is reving at something like 4000 rpm which is way out of its narrow tourque band so it accellerates slowley. also it runs out of gearing at 110mph where as a standard vrs will reach way over 125mph.

yer they had the option of 90bhp version engine in the a2. think the difference was in the turbo between that and the 75bhp one. but if you look now they do a 70bhp one and an 80bhp one in the polo/fabia/ibiza. but the a2 still retains the 75bhp one and the 90bhp one.

when the 90bhp is subjected to a genric remapp it will produce some where in the region of 115bhp.

hence would make a nice easy transplant to an arosa hehe??:D

or you could do wat chris said and stick the pd160 in an arosa...... arosa cupra r.

I drive a remapped Fabia 1.4 TDI, a 2003 Model. Originally it had 75 BHP and 195 NM torque. After remapping, now it has 100 bhp and 265 NM. It drives very nicely, but its no match for a standard vRS.

But I can beat a standard 1.9 TDI Octavia MkII or a 1.9 TDI Fabia/Polo.

I tested a (non-remapped) Fabia vRS, and I felt the remapped 1.4 TDi more agile at low revs, which was a bit surprise. The vrs felt only stronger revving over 2500 RPM, then it was obviously much quicker.

Anyway I decided to keep the 1.4 TDI for another year, its very reliable and econimical with the remap, and provides fun as well. No problems over 45.000 mile in 2 years.
