Drivers door I think

Do a search for other threads on 'Central Locking', there's plenty of them here. I've got central locking problems too and it may be to do with water in the CD Changer compartment rather then the central locking controller. Not something I'd have suspected at all until l I dug around here a bit.

I found mention in another thread that it is mounted under the facia panel on the driver's side. Get a VAG-COM check done first to check if any errors have been recorded.

I too have central locking problems. Dealer has ordered central convenience unit AND the wiring loom. Apparently, it's common for the terminals to get corroded due to water ingress.

If it is common, why don't they protect the unit from moisture?

its plugged in to the drivers door window motor, and its a bitch to get out, metal clips and plastic clips all over, and you have to be mega gentle when pulling it out of the window motor as theres a flimsy PCB in there. I'm fortunate enough to have a background in PCB repair, so I've managed to fix my corroded CCU today by doing away with the plug and just hard wiring everything, luckily it all worked first time and has now cured the electrical gremlins, and saved me hundreds of hard earned squids

The convenience unit is located behind the light switch on the underside of the dash, DGW is correct.

What you are referring to is the door control unit which has the window motor as an integral part. I suspect that the dealer has ordered a door control unit and a door wiring loom. I have seen one case of water in the connection where the resulting corrosion has made one of the pins so weak that it had snapped off.

Locking faults can be caused by lots of things from a shorted boot light bulb holder to an internal fault with one of the 5 control units, so it is always worth getting the faults read to help pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Thanks guys, from what has been happening to the car and reading the threads I strongly suspect corrosion in the door wiring somewhere, the central locking wont lock the car because it thinks the drivers door is still open because the door light is still on when it is shut, if I bang the door the light goes out and the car will lock all the doors except the drivers. weather permitting I will have a look tomorrow.

Hi all

found the door control unit attached to the window motor, removed the connector and found brown water leaking out of it!!, further inspection revealed 2 broken connectors(1 not used), and 5 others very rusty, repaired the broken connector by soldering a wire to it and putting a connector between it and the loom.

cleaned the rest as best as i could, put it all back together and now i have a reliable door open light but still no door mirror adjuster or drivers door remote lock . question is how did the water get there in the first place?

I am off to the scrappy next weekend for a look to see what i can get.

Make sure that you get a replacement of the same part number as there are different variations of software coding.
