cheers - managed to sort it in the end.... none of the antivus stuff seemed to be able to get rid so I edited the registry to get rid of anything that referred to the dll.... then rebooted.

then ran ccleaner

then rebooted

then went into dos and deleted the file that way

then rebooted

and now it's gone :)

ta for help, peeps :)

wouldn't exactly describe it as the best / most pleasant way to spend an evening.... but there's a feeling of accomplishment when you know you've beaten it :D

Some you can't beat - real swines.

Read up on Norton Ghost (preferably Ghost 2003) and then get a copy and install it. Genuinely the best thing since sliced bread i.e. whatever virus, trojan, rootkit, spyware installs itself with Norton Ghost you can revert to a 'snapshot' of your system (that you created some time before) within minutes. In doing so it overwrites EVERYTHING on the partition you are installing back onto - none of the old survives.

Honest, it's a real life saver, I mess with software all the time - installing, uninstalling - and over the years I've got into real problems. Since discovering Norton Ghost several years ago I can tinker to my hearts content - knowing I'm just minutes away from reverting to a saved backup should anything go wrong.

Also, a lot of stuff can come down from the Internet (without you knowing it) because you probably have ActiveX enabled. Disable this - if you find you cannot access certain sites (very few) then temporarily enable it until you've finished with the site and then disable it again.

If you install Avant Browser (a very good freeware 'bolt-on' for Internet Explorer) then you can easily enable / disable ActiveX/Flash and more.

Avant Browser :: Home

Avant Browser also (besides tons of other useful facilities) allows you to save Password and Logon info for sites so you can AutoLogin with two mouseclicks.

Best thing to do is get a trebuchet and fling it back outside the castle.

HTH

Or put it on a very fast treadmill pointing over the castle ramparts

Later then, and missing you already (meant way more sincerely than the usual Yank parting salutation).

Very sweet of you:) .

Still packing wet weather gear and extra woollies. Or due to global warming perhaps I should pack a swimming cossie?
