Following on from this thread, http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia/help-what-part/70017/ , before I screw this plug back in, would any of the geabox oil been spilt whilst driving. How can I check if it needs topping up as it is a right pain to get to?

On the octy I believe you just put the right oil into the box until it comes out the fill hole then the level is correct.

Hmmm, there should be usually an unscrewable plug at the side of the gearbox to determine the correct level?

Cheers i checked the level and all is ok. I cant believe the dealer left the plug off in the first place. Tut tut

Some debris might have gone down the hole. I would get the dealer to flush it out.... at his expense :-)
