There was me harping on about no problems with the vRS

Iain from Finer Details is here at the mo detailing the Octy and the Wifes Polo, he depth tested the paint on the octy and to say it's inconsistent is a joke, it looks fine to the naked eye, but near the door edges and pretty much most of the panel edges he found the paint to be anything up to 40 microns thinner than the centre of the panels, it was not progressive either, just got to the edge and it looks like the Robot stopped painting.

The tailgate and the roof are showing patches of 130 micron then a few inches across 90 micron so it's not good.

It raises some concerns about future de-swirl operations if they are / where needed as it would need doing carefully.

You would think that a machine would be able to do the job better....

Make sure you post some piccies when Iain is done

I assume they have a spec as to what its supposed to be.....it would be interesting to compare that to your findings.

Btw What did he use to measure it ?

GAFF - Iain uses a paint depth guage, I *think* its ultrasonic, its only small thing

FM - For reference, when Iain detailed my mazda the paint was between 80-90 microns all over. I would be happy to have 130 micron patches! Ditto the thoughts on swirl removal in a few years.

Who cares Tony it'll be filthy by the time you get it down here on Friday!!

Very intereting point though, wonder if you perhaps have a rogue car or if it's consistant throughout the brand.

Mates fiesta I'm detailing at the moment only has 79 micron thick paint on most of the rear passenger side wing :eek:
