Late Sun. Night MY Fav vRS Had a Race With BMW X5

Featured Replies

Just come back from nightclub and was on motorway. Seen in the mirror this car fast approaching me. When it overtook I noticed it was a BMW X5.

So I gave it some beans caught up with him (apprx 117 mph) and overtook. As it was getting close to the turn off junction I eased off.

He then overtook me but then kept by my side. I looked up at the driver and he gave me a one finger salute!

I suppose If he really wanted to make me look a ******** he could have. Just by putting his foot down even more. He would have left me.

I did not see what engime size it was but do you think I could have given an better run for his money?

What's the bhp compared with my beauty vRS?

I am not a boy racer. Infact I am more like a Sunday afternoon driver. But I just wanted to see what it could do.

What's everybody think? I don't think I could have kept up with him top end?

Any answers appreciated.

ok you have the following engines: -

3.0i PETROL 0-62mph = 9.8s Top Speed = 127mph

4.4i PETROL 0-62mph = 7.7s Top Speed = 149mph

4.8i PETROL 0-62mph = 6.1s Top Speed = 153mph

3.0i DIESEL 0-62mph = 8.6s Top Speed = 130mph

Skoda Fabia VRS

1.9TDi DIESDEL 0-62mph = 9.6s TOP SPEED = 126mph

Most likely you would have lost mate... sorry.

What I think? Admitting to 117mph isn't the best move. ;)

Generally, "racing" threads are frowned upon on here. Some of them simply get a bit silly.

Blimey, the 4.4i and 4.8i are quick motors. Didn't realise there spec.

it was most likely a 3.0 though, which aren't particulary quick cars, even when they're moving ;)

Actually the 4.4ltr is more like 7 seconds.

I've driven both, they're very fast. The 4.4ltr feels torqueir than the 4.8ltr funny enough.

please please the X5 is generally drove by an idiot in a suit, if he was racing he would have done it at all costs so don't get dragged down by these kind of drivers. TBH the X5 is a powerful car so I wouldn't even try.

Anyone up for a BMW and 4x4 rant :D

sure to wind some folk up

You know by now that putting up any sort of "fabia vs xxx" thread attracts a bunch of snide comment-makers straight off. :D (with respect to the posts so far, this hasn't happened yet - wonder why...)

Despite this review about the non-modded Fabia vRS:

Cranks up the flamethrower

Apart from admitting speed you were driving at, which (unless you've already had the ticket) is generally not a particularly great plan when clearly exceeding whatever speed limit applied at that particular stretch of road ;)

I've admitted here on site I did 105 mph, as I received points and a slap on the wrists + fine for it, learnt my lesson & all that.

Surprised the car would get up to that speed so well though without a remap, I found up to 100 mph (yes this was abroad) the standard car is reasonably ok to get there, but after that it starts to struggle. With remap it pulls through to the redline in 6th, which is fairly fast & I wouldn't do it in the UK :)

Fuel economy goes a tad out of the window at those speeds though, right :P :P

Thing I don't quite get is why the other driver gave you the one-fingered salute though, sounds like you were both going at some pace but that doesn't warrant that?

PS Not saying I'm a saint on the road - you know if it was 'safe' ;)

Ah well, had a bit of fun :D

Do you know which gear they are quoting for the BMW and Lotus? :D

Chris

I presume "in gear" is referring to the optimum gear for that given speed?

"in gear" is usually quoted in 3rd, 4th, 5th I think.... An Elise 11R will do 60 in under 5 seconds, and 0-30 in under 2 seconds

Chris

You didn't have a race. You speeded up, overtook, then slowed down and annoyed someone to the point where they made a point of giving you the finger. Just because they were motoring a bit and driving a bigger/better (?!) car.

X5 man probably thought "oh god, hot hatch, boy racer".

Having just been hit and run i am quite happy to say that both you and him were acting like c*nts.

I really hope you either loose your license or don't hit anyone else when you crash. Then after a major smash you might realise why you don't want to drive like a d*ck!

Those in gear acceleration times, are taken from Autocar, which i think most dealers hand-out due to the impressive review.

BMW 330i - 4th gear

Lotus Elise - 2nd gear (although Elise time was done on wet track)

Ah, that puts it in perspective then!

330i would surely accelerate better in 3rd gear @ 50mph.....

Yep - this is why "in gear" times as a performance measurement can be misleading :D As an example, remember the Fiat Stilo (?) vs Mitsi Evo on Top Gear comparison where both cars were driven in 5th gear from 30mph?
