My Fabia vRS Questions

Thought the pollen filter was 40k recommended - going to do mine at 30k if so.

I wouldn't buy Pilot Primacy's. ASAIK they are superseded now anyway, and when last tested by Auto Express they got pasted. I had them from new, they're not particularly good at anything, the cornering is pants, and by the time they get to down to 4mm they are frightening on wet motorways - which is not as advertised by Michelin and takes away the benefit of alledged longer life to make up for the extra cost. I put Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on mine, much firmer ride, but made up for with vastly better handling. Also cheaper then the Michelin's.

Could this be done under warranty? It is slightly annoying.... :)

As for the tyres, I'll be shoving Toyo Proxes on there I think. People seem to rate them well and say that they're pretty quiet. Either that or Michelin Pilot Primacy's from Costco. Haven't decided yet.

My cars done it since New Nov 05 so Mine was done under warranty. Didnt fix the MOOING Ive had New discs and pads Still does it. Now about to sound proof the Rear so i carnt hear it. I do get this noise going forward under braking too though so it winds me up to hell.

I have Marshall tyres fitted on my 17's quite loud (comparing to Michlins) grippy when dry, VERY bad when wet front end sides like mad.

MOOing

Years ago we had a Renault 5TS. When braking the car used to sound like a double decker bus pulling up - it was so bad we were scared to brake.

Renault's cure was new pads with a 'cut' vertically down the middle (not all the way down to the metal, though) to stop the resonating.

Might be worth trying this with a hacksaw if it is really getting on your t*ts.

I too have the 'mooing' sound. Dealers said it required a very straight forward rear brake modification, covered under warranty. Booked in for Saturday.

However i am a bit dubious as to whether it is the same problem as many others have had. Mine makes the noise almost all the time whether going forwards or in reverse, but not when braking. It appears to make a noise with each wheel revolution, and repeats quicker as i accelerate, until it becomes a continuous sound, eventually deafened out by the engine. Does this seem like the same problem?

Warped discs - do the brakes judder at all on braking or the wheel wobble during braking ?

These are the rears that do it, so the chances of them being warped are minimal....they're hardly used! Nothing wobbles either, and once it's done it it doesn't do it again for a little while...

It's almost like it's scraped off whatever cr4p was causing it that time.

Excellent. Thanks v muchly guys.

Not had Avon tyres on a car before. Are they any good? Blackkcircles rate them quite well.

Not pushed the car too hard yet so can't comment on grip etc.

Avon tyres are good tyres mate, i have had them on my PUG 205 GRD and my old Felly. They last quite a while and I found them to be quieter then most "Top" brands. However I still in the belief that Michelins are the quietest of the lot. I will say that the down side to 'Quiet' tyres are the grip seems a little less then loader tyres.

My 1.4TDi revs at 900/950rpm on tick over, I was concerned with that when I test drove the car and I instantly asked if that was normal :D

As with the Fuel gauge, I have noticed the same, I will say when your at 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 you can acuratly predict your MPG on those markers around town I get 120 per 1/4 tank and outta town I get 160miles per 1/4 tank. You can expect anywhere between 44mpg to 48mpg combined and upper 50's for outta town runs (Based on countless amounts of threads on that subject on this forum)

As with the brakes I have no idea, but click search on the top bar in this forum and type in something like 'Fabia Brakes' and see whats come up :D

As with servicing, get the old Owners/Service manual out and see what needs to be done at what intervals. Or ring the local dealer and ask for a full list of servicing requirements and get them to send it to you :D If they are good, I am sure they will do it (My Local Did)

I hope my little insight helped :D

Yes; Michelins are good and quiet  AND the Pilot Exalto 2s grip like stink, particularly in the wet :D

Excellent. Many thanks guys.

Nope, everything seems normal when braking. First noticed 'mooing' day after i picked it up, so wouldn't have thought discs are warped.

Anyway, gets the rear brake mod tomorrow, so i'll soon know if its the same problem.
