Steps Involved In Changing Oil

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just a quick question - I ve read on several placs that to change oil you nee to remove the old oil filter and replace it and then install the new oil filter.

Can anyone explain wat woul happen if you removed old oil filter, poured in the new oil and then installed the new oil filter would have? Would it go everywhere ?

The reason why I ask is that was what the mechanic did and it ended up with oild over the engine.

Thanks

I find the best way is to get the oil hot. Drain the oil. Change the filter.

Fit the sump plug. Then fill the engine with oil. I like to put some oil in the filter if possible before fitting.

Run the engine, check the oil level.

Regarding oil coming out of the engine with the filter removed, most filters will

be above the oil level so it should not happen.

Hope this helps.

Steps? Changing Oil? Not on your nelly. Spark Plugs perhaps, but not oil...

as allready stated above, you should be fine filling up the oil with the filter not installed, but the thing to remember is that a screw on filter retains about 1/2 litre of oil, so when you unscrew it it will come ****ing out.....

also dont run the engine without a filter on becuase the oil pump will just pump it all out of the hole where the oil filter is supposed to be.....

but on some cars there is no screw on filter, the have a renewable element, which is also quite high up on the engine
