What will I get from chipping Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of Chipping my Octavia vRS upto around 220bhp. :smrbow: BUT!!!!!

1. What kind of performance will a get from an extra 40bhp??

2. How will this effect the economy (Obviously less mpg but how much)??

3. How would a good induction kit and uprated exhaust complement it??

If any one can offer any info I would be greatful. Plus, what else can be done to the car with out goin too far??? (Without upgrading turbo etc..)???

Thanks, Andy

Welcome Andy.

Not much of a 20VT connoisseur myself, so my comments are not experience founded, but lots of posts have debated the pros and cons in the performance section.

As a guess:

1. from what I've heard, it's not the number of 40 that you feel, it's the way in which the engine works. A remap (preferably Jabba one 'cos it's "tuned" to your specific engine / ecu) will give a more progressive feel and ultimately, you'll have an engine working the way you want it to :)

2. It shouldn't. Most people actually say it improves economy, but of course, with the more smiles per miles, you're right foot seems heavier as days go by ;)

3. As you say, it would complement it nicely. Maybe others will tip in with their experience.

In terms of what can be done to a car, Des (delcac) had a quite heavily tuned car without going down the turbo / new internals route (please slap me if I'm wrong, Des!) and his was pretty awesome - prolly over the 250-260 mark. Being a passenger on a wet road was an interesting experience - that is feeling wheelspin in 3rd gear at 60mph due to excessive power :D

Hi Andy

220 Bhp?. How does 230+ sound (from "just" a chip) ?

Myself (233Bhp) and several others have got 230Bhp from a JabbaSport re-map ;)

As for economy, thrash it everywhere and you'll know about it. Drive it sensibly and you'll see 32mpg and better :)

Hmmm, exhaust & induction, i can't say as mine is standard apart from the chip, but plenty of others on here have done these mods too. I'm sure they'll chip in soon enough :)

230 is easy to get from the Jabba remap.

250 is relatively easy with a few other tweaks.

Seriously, for everyt day use 250ish is enough. Its adequate for tracdays as well.

Why not come to the meet at Bruntigthorpe and you can see what the various "chips" are like at various power levels. Click the banner at the top for details. There will be people there with standard ones, APR, REVO, Superchips and Jabba ones. Go for passenger laps and see which feels the best.

Otherwise, look in the FAQ for tuning tips, IIRC there is a very long post in there about this very subject.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not planning on doing anything for at least a month as I'm going to Bali and Australia at the end of February for 2 weeks. I'll post some questions on here before I go ahead and do anything so I make the choice and don't waste any of my valuable pennies. 233Bhp does sound nice.

Cheers.

1) It's quite noticeable.

2) You will notice a different as you will exercise your right foot. I still can get 36mpg on the motorway but I reckon I'll be back to 40mpg if I turn the boost down.

3) Would be better to have these fitted before a remap such that, the remap can taken them into consideration. Cat back probably gives very little but sports dp/cat and cat back will give more torque. I still a nice kick in the back when I put my foot down at 80mph...uphill...on private road of course.

Also because the exhaust bore is larger, 2.5'', it'll be a bit more noisey. Meaty is a good description.

If you want to hear more of that "pstsh" from the DV then get a CAI or do the airbox mod. You can of course just replace the filter with a peformance replacement filter.

Anything else? Turbo inlet pipe.

Want a discount off any of the above...check out the Group Buy forum....or PM if you're interested in a 10% discount of a remap at Jabba.

HTH.

That's what i'm planning to do TaviaRS, if that's OK by everyone who owns the cars. I shall be bringing my helmet and asking ever so nicely for passenger rides in 4x4s with the various chips and performance mods.

I got mine remapped - I have yet to post the results - sorry! I will soon, I also got the Catback exhaust and a new mechanical DV (Thanks Jabba). The result is like a new engine - incredible! I would say the economy is exactly the same when coming to work but, like as has been said the loud pedal does get used more!

You will DEFINITELY notice the difference - I ummed and ahhed about getting it done but it was really worth it!

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all,

Just back from having my week-old Octavia Revo'd by JBS in Chesterfield.

Awesome! Loads more power, very very noticeable, the car just wants to go. Also had K&N filter, Forge DV and 4 bar fuel pressure regulator. Got the SPS 3 so able to adjust timing and boost for use / road conditions

Highly recommended.... and the best bit is James took me out for a spin in his nitrous Octavia, now that is really really fast!

See you at Bruntingthorpe!

Ross.
