I'm pleased with myself today......new discs and pads fitted

Featured Replies

Very pleased with myself today, Fitted new pads and discs on the rear of my vRS. Id never undertaken a job like this before. I was fed up of paying garage prices for fitting and its a good way of getting my mind more educated.

Took 2 hours 45 mins to do both rears, me and my girlfriends brother. What star he was.

A very easy job in my mind.

Bought the discs and pads on friday from GSF for

where did you get your zimmermann discs from? i have been searching all over trying to find some!!

It's nice and satisfying when you can do something like this , not to mention saving money

i am after the cross drilled ones, any one know where i can get those from?

GSF do them, but they are not in the catalogue or online. You'd have to visit one of there shops.

What did you do to lift the car up? I'd love to be able to take the wheels off and just have a good look at my brakes, but I've only got the jack that comes with the spare wheel and that doesn't seem to be up to much. If you put it on axle stands, will one do or do you need to use two, or even four?

We used a trolley jack with a piece of soft wood on the top so the car jacking point moulded to the wood.

Put one chock infront of the front wheel and one chock behind the other front wheel.

Jacked up the car, then placed an axle stand with soft wood on about 10 inches away, then lowered the trolley jack so that it had both the support of the trolley jack and the axle stand.

Then the same the other side.

I bought one of these a while back:

Thanks mluton.

So the axle stand wasn't at the jacking point? Is there some other place it should go, or will anywhere on the sill do? And why are they called axle stands if they don't go on the axle?

Cheers!

They probably are suppose to go there but i just used my own method.

i put the jack on the (v) jacking point on the rear of the car then just put the axle stand towards the centre next to the jack.

Remember the soft wood.

I thought this was a good deal on a trolley jack and stands:

Excuse the dirty alloys.

Nice and shiny

The brakes that is, not the alloys! You could have done a proper clean of them, seeing as they were off the car ;)
