Following on from the last poll, a nice simple one. When going for a maximum speed run, what worries you most?

Chris

sneazing

I reckon for alot of you it would be the cops finding out and then banning you!

why would anyone try this?

we know the vmax by looking on the spec sheet : DOH :

Biggest worry is a blowout tbh.

My biggest worry would be running out of runway ;)

Chris

Running out of runway/autobahn. :D

I'm 100% confident in my car, so whilst mechanical issues could be a factor #1 is getting nabbed at license losing speeds.

Getting caught doing 3 figure speeds is always a worry (not that I do that mind  )

Another worry is the actions of another road user

if i was to try and get the max out of my car, i think the law would be a big reminder not to actually do it.... , but i think another major part of the worry is a blowout...i've herd all sorts about tyre faliure so if i dont speed too much in the 1st place nothing bad can happen! i just have to keep reminding myself i only have 3 points til august! :o :P

another thing....maybe someone jumping out to be ran over on purpose? big animals! me and my friends were on the way back from cornwall after our day trip and we were on about what if we got abducted by aliens at 2am this morning on the m5 ...and no one would have a clue!

i would hate to get banned, becuase i wouldn't be able to drive to work

 @ lack of option 2...

You were missing an option...

You want to do my job then! If banned, I would be unable to re-join the ADI register and thus unable to work for 4 years from the end of the ban. This is why I now drive like a granny on mogadon:O

Chris

Option 2.

If I wanted to test v max on a public road it would limit the roads I could use, especially if my car was deristricted.

I fully trust the car, and don't think the police would stand much chance of catching me

IMO the derestricted speed would be too much for any public road.

What are you driving that would go so fast as to be "too much" may I ask? And of course, how fast would it go?

Didn't want to say, because I didn't want to get slated on this site :o

'06 BMW M5, limited to 155mph, derestricted 204mph I believe.

Nippy then. I am sure the indicators work on your one. It tends to be the sado with the X series and no badge min spec engine types that give BMW drivers a bad name.

Seriously though, no reason for a slating as far as I can see. I would consider one myself if I had the cash. 204 on the public highway, I can see being a bit much, having said that I know more than one that have done it on 2 wheels. If you are going to get banned, you may as well do it in style. Probably in prison as well if caught at that speed.

I think the weight of the car doesn't help it, when hitting serious speeds on an empty motorway, the slightest bump or gentle bend soon turn into something of a problem.

I would get it checked out. Even my old Vauxhall Senator was more than happy to tank along at those sorts of speeds without any hassle from bumps or bends. Only odd thing about it was that it was the first car in which I had veriable assistance power steering and it used to go almost rock solid above 130. The M25 is none to straight at 3am and NSL x 2.5

I would have thought that something from the home of the autobhan would cope well. Possibly needs geometry checking?

Slated?!?! Who cares :D I love the new M5, so if you're ever in Hants give us a shout!

F) The presence of other traffic.

F) The presence of other traffic.

In which case you shouldn't be doing silly speeds anyway.

Infact it shouldn't be done at all, clear road or not IMO.

Most likely worry, getting nicked and banned.

Most worrying... The unexpected, bl**dy deer, sheep, goats or whatever....

I haven't maxed either of my current cars, though I may have strayed whilst distracted.

.

Which was very much my point; I'll abort any sort of high speed run if there's heavy traffic or even just light slow traffic.

Is that cos you're a soft and wary person ?

Puns aside, I agree - not that I've pasted any of my recent cars - licence too too valuable.
