PAS woes, and sadness :(

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My PAS failed yesterday morning, the steering went very stiff, i had beeps and also the warning icon on the dash come on (this snt funny when you havent been the gym for a while  ).

The garage has given me a cost of repair for

How much is a PAS pump? It must be astronomically expensive! That bill is worse than my PAS bill (I needed a new steering rack) and that cost

My local skoda garage said that the pump was

is the dealer sure its not the angle sensor as its a common failure point.

He says he is adament that it is not the angle sensor.

Saying that after everything is fitted it probably will be :o

Be very very acreful about this - I have a 1.4 MPI and the PAS failed - I took it to a dealer - two in fact =- both of which saif it was the pump -

The car had 30 K on the clock so I was hesitiant but eventually found a scrapcar, an 04 plate and changed the pump.

It did not fix the issue

I have so far just lived with no PAS - You get used to it I suppose.

PAS pumps are 100 quid from a scrapyard and should cost 50 quid to replace

Sensor on ebay at the moment for £39.99 + postage. I think I'd be inclined to change the sensor first and if that don't work then fix the pump ... £40 against £700 !

What does VAG COM read?

Why a new battery? £110 for a battery is also very expensive. I'd follow the advice already given above if I were you.

if the battery has gone faulty , this will stop the PAS working ,due to the amount of currect the pump draws , the dealership may be able to reset/reprogram the pump so that it works correctly , also as has been said above , the angle sensor is the favourite fault on them

VAG-COM wouldnt go any futher in diagnosing the system unless the battery was changed. According to the skoda dealer it was saying 'Change Battery'.

He says that there is an electric motor in the pump that is causing the fault. I asked about the sensor first before anything, he said that he has checked this and its not the problem. He is adament that it is not the sensor.

Bugger :/

Can you use jump leads to isolate the battery?

I thought my battery was fine, i questioned them about putting my old one back on as it was not causing the fault. They said no, it needs the new battery. I think my local skoda is screwing me over :(

Why not get a new battery first and see what happens?

They placed a new battery on, and the same fault kept re occuring. The battery was on since new :)

See what VAG COM reads - It should be something like cant communicate with control module at the very least

Ask for the old battery back and have it tested, no doubt they will say it as been disposed of  This being the case tell them they did not have permision to dispose of your propertyand refuse to pay their bill:cool: £110 for a battery certainly sounds extreme. Unfortunately you will probably fall out big time with dealer, were is your next nearest/ do you care?

Skoda FABIA, FELICIA 1.9D, TD (All Years) Car Battery

gives battery prices for your car from £50 to the rolls royce of batteries at £130

I brought the car from Robert Eardley and Son 18 months ago, their service has been fantastic and the repairs/servicing are second to none. I live 40 miles away from this dealership and always went there. Autosales in Cannock is 4 miles away from me this was the obv choice to take my car to. So this is were it sill is. It looks like its going to get messy :/

i would collect the car and take it to another dealer , to get a second opinion
