He's probably a distant relative of Ferdinand Sporche?

I love Unimogs Sporky, have you ever driven one?

No, but I'd love to - a Unimog and a Tatra 812 are on my "must drive" list.

Need a co-pilot for the Unimog?:)

Is the Tatra the 6 wheel drive thingy that looks a bit like it

8x8 - huge great thing, can drive up hills you can't walk up. Doh; I meant 813.

What's it used for

I think they are a military vehicle. Haven

They're used as expedition vehicles, by various militaries, for truck trialling and for rough terrain transport, I believe.

Just got a call from Porsche though, and no slots left for another go. :(

But they've put me on the track-day list instead, so it's not all bad. Also the Test Drive + programme, which is an hour and a half with a Porsche demonstrator driver.

You are a jammy git! :)

Hope you've got Pampers at the ready.

Pah. I have a Fabia 1.9TDi. What's a 911 got on that? ;)

I have to say,I had a spin in a 911 (albeit very briefly!)

I'm sure it was incredibly quick. It just didn't feel it:(

Stunning car though

Most cars of that ilk have an "on/off" clutch.

I hope my wife doesn't read this. She'll want one to go with her "on/off" clutch foot.

I'd agree. My boss's last car was a Volvo S40 T5. Now, quite obviously, that's not as fast as a 911. But it really felt like it was going - I presume it was the turbo lag thing that made it feel that way.

Financial considerations aside, I can't see myself ever wanting a 911 now.

Couple of weeks might get me in trouble - it's only meant to be a 24 hour test drive! :D

We just had our 24 hour drive 997 returned by the "customer" Engine is out and the blue clutch is being replaced ! Brake dust on the REAR wheels sends a message it was driven like a Tw@at !

I was a lot more careful than that!

Sounds like it had been to Top Gear

I was a lot more careful than that!

AND it had 200 miles extra on the clock !!!! Yours looks like it has an Aero Kit fitted, was there a nice boot spoiler ? Fantastic cars though, got to be the most reliable and user friendly super cars out there and your better half ca do the shopping in it !

I don't know if you're confusing a Tatra 813 with a military MAN 8x8, ;) but the typical uses of both models include military and civilian all-terrain haulage, and rally-raid (like the Dakar) support/truck-class vehicles.

Tatra run a Dakar team (or they used to) with the 8x8's and 4x4's.There was an 813 at Castle Combe a couple of years ago...biggest,smoke belching thing there AWESOME !

Yeah - there was an enormous great spoiler on the back of it. The chin spoiler terrified me though - there are at least a dozen of those box-type speed bumps on the way to my house. Luckily it was already chipped a scratched, so the Porsche chap said not to worry - in the end it didn't take any more damage though.

I know Tatra run/ran a Dakar team; so did MAN, or at least they were both popular choices in the "truck" class. My point was that, unless you could see maker's badges, they look similar with the body on, although the Tatra's backbone chassis looks nothing like the MAN's ladder type.

The Various Demo cars that i had the use of when car was being serviced i put over 600miles on a 987 Boxster S,same again on a Cayenne S and 400miles on a 997 S when i had that and about 100miles on a test drive plus in a Cayman S.

You can't get a feel for a car if you don't do some miles in them!!!

Especially when its the dealers car.

Although i can't fault my local OPC at all, they are very helpful and always call back when they say they will.

OK i don't currently have a Porsche but i will be going back to one within the next 12 months.

I do miss my 986 Boxster S loads, but the 987 S/996 Turbo/997 S that i drove in long and short test drives were fantastic so thats the 3 i have to choose from for my next Porsche.

Porsche customer service is excellent , I admit I've only ever used them for bits n bobs for the 944 I used to own , but they always seemed to welcome your business , and not treat you like a nuisance , which is more than can be said for some other brands dealer empoyees! It's just a shame that I cannot afford one , not even an 'Approved Used' car from an OPC , I really appreciate the engineering that goes into a Porsche car.

What's it used for

driving up stuff.

driving over stuff.

driving through stuff.

getting revenge via the above 3 options.

HTH :)
