Road noise into vRS cabin...

Featured Replies

Hi All

I've had my 06 plate silver Octy II vRS for a week now, and predictably loving the performance etc - however (particularly at motorway speeds) tyre roar seems very pronounced in the cabin - is it me just not used to the car, or are other Octy II vRS owners finding similar? I had a quick look in boot under floor & there seems to be little/no sound deadening in there - has anyone tried getting hold of some & lining boot area in a bid to reduce noise? nb car is wearing Bridgestones all round - anyone have Michelins/others & found them quieter?

cheers

Fred

I have Bridgestones on my new (new to me) Octavia vRS and they do seem a bit noisy. I also had them on my Fabia vRS and chaged to Goodyear F1 which made a noticeable difference. Not sure Michelins will improve your situation as they are known to be deliberately manufactured "hard" to give higher than average mileage and as a consequence they too are a bit noisy.

Depends on which michelins you are talking about

I have changed to Michelin PS2's and have noticed a notable reduction in road noise but they ain't cheap!.

I had Michelin Energy's on a Picasso and swapped to Goodyears and it made a big difference on noise and ride comfort. Hardly a sporting drive I'll acknowledge ;)

When changing on the Fabia I asked the tyre fitters for their experience and they confirmed Michelins were generally noisy and suggested Goodyear F1s as people on this site have done so I went with them.

Which Michelins do you have? Are they quieter than Conti or Bridgestone? I'm going to need 2 fairly soon. Thanks

Funnily enough I am looking for a pair myself and am probably going to try something else. Toyo TR1's or Khomu Ecsta 31's are the favourite for me at the moment.

Try here for a selection of the best rubber, plenty to choose from.

I found Pilot Exalto 2 to be very quiet and pilot premacy to be fairly quiet.

Choice of tyres does make a difference but is rather expensive to swap and change - I have an Elegance Estate and there is quite alot of undamped resonant panel work in the boot and under the back seat- I think Skoda could have spent a few more pennies dealing with it - fixing sound damping did help take the edge off the "symphony" of different road noises - when the tyres actually need replacing then think about quieter running tyres. Road surfaces in UK are getting worse too so every little helps.

It did improve too when the suspension was run in a bit ( good few thousand miles) or did I just get used to it :) :)
