Octavia Sleeper 4x4 Project Info Required

Featured Replies

Looking to gain as much info on Octavia 4x4 as poss.

The Estate version would be my first choice

I would want to leave the exterior as stock as poss.

My aim would be to Mod a 4x4 to a reliable 350+hp and everything else that goes with it.

What would be the best & most cost effective way to go?

What do I need?

My list so far is:

Would the STD ECU be flexible enough to be of use with a suitable remap.

What are the limits on stock engine & drive train.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

I don't think the boost controller is necessary personally.

Std. ECU is fine, my 4x4 is running 450bhp using a remap on the original ECU. If aiming for 350+bhp I would personally uprate the engine interals for peace of mind and also fit a 6spd box with uprated clutch rather than waste money on an uprated clutch for the 5spd only to find you have to upgrade later anyway.

I'd go for a proper exhaust rather than the virtual one you mention as I expect it will be far too loud.

You need to add larger MAF housing to your list and assume the turbo kit you refer to includes TIP, Manifold and DP?

Under the heading Suspension allow for coilovers or springs and dampers, adjustable camber bars, poly bushes and mounts and R32 ARB's.

4x4's have 288mm brakes. Largest you will get under standard wheels are the 312mm VRS brakes.

Personally I'd look for some slightly larger wheels to accomodate larger brakes. I think someone has some big brakes for sale on this site - check the classifieds.

I'd very much like a look at your car  and a ride:)

I know what your saying re: the VE being loud, but as its boost activated my plan was to put an in cabin mech to restrict boost to it when needed making it a stock system....... poss linked to the Boost controller. :)

6 speed sounds like the plan :) Who & where ?

For the initial set-up I would like to keep to a stock internals and restrict power on that basis, with a view to building up a second forged internals replacement unit later on.

What larger MAF are you using?

What Injectors? cc?

Who did you use for the re-map?

Not sure what TIP refers too!

Yeah were on the same page with the suspension :)

Would need to get the DP fabded up with the VE.

Sorry or all the q's but what as much info before starting.

Updated the list with 6 speed.

JBS did all the mechanical work and mapping on my car.

Most of your questions about my car will be answered here and here.

TIP is turbo intake pipe and goes from the MAF housing to the turbo inlet.

if it were me and i was doing it again i would source a 225 engine from a TT and use that as a base as it already has better/stronger internals and a slightly better head apparently.

for 350bhp really you are looking at a new box as stated above as you would be pushing it, stuart above blew up a 5 speed box in a matter of months but he is pushing about 375lbft i believe.

but if you get the 225 lump the injectors in it may be good enough for 350bhp if not then i am sure some replacements should be fairly easy to get hold of.

the 3" inlet is a must at that power level really as the standard inlet will throttle it at high revs.

the main trouble with the 6 speed box is that the transfer box is slightly further over than the orginal on the 5 speed and some tuners have warned that it may cause premature wear and possible failure so i'd be watching that ove rthe next 12 months really as its only ever been done twice to a 4x4 octavia.

497 N/m whatever that is in lb/ft

If you are happy with close to 300 the TT unit + a remap I believe gives around 290 bhp, add the Intercoler & Exhaust, (Remember to spec both for future needs) and you will be over 300

Fitting this + the TT box+ a decent clutch (sized for the future) will give you a good basis to build on, you could then sort the suspension etc

KW 3's are the danglies IMO + ARB upgrades

Then a decent set of stoppers, Ive got 335x32 Discs with AP 4 pots, it was a bespoke kit built by Godspeed to suit the wheels, you will need at least 17" but Ians managed to squeeze AP 6 pots + 335x32 discs behind sts Octy Rs 17" wheels  Note also AP 4 pots have larger pads than Brembo 4 pots so bigger area of pad on the disc.

Then its really up to you but remember bigger power = bigger Turbo = more lag

Mines a mere 356 bhp but its over 300 at 4500 rpm & is still over 300 when it hits the limiter at 7800, & max torque at around 3500. this all equates to a very driveable car, your not chasing powerbands (Ive been there with an Impreza, 300 bhp but loads of lag)

I cant post the map as I jhavent got an electronic copy or a scanner but if you have access to a fax PM me a number & I will fax it
