How am I doing re tyre wear

After 13,000 miles I'm down to 5mm on the fronts and 7mm on the rears, on the original contis. Just wondering how this compares to others experiences?

This is normal for a front wheel drive car - depending on driving style.

If anything that's pretty good.

When I was looking for a vRS, I came across one with 7000 miles on the clock on bald front tyres!! Plus the interior stank of BO, needless to say I avoided it.

Used to get 40,000 miles out of tyres on my 106 but they were hard as nails economy tyres :D

just replaced the 2 fronts at 14k but had mine remapped at 2k and was told that it may hurt the front tyres!! had an octavia vrs b4 that and got 20k out of the fronts but it was a much lighter engine.

Had to replace front Michelins at 16k on Fab vRS - and previous owner was lady driver !

I'm down to 5.5 mm @ 7000 miles on the o/e Bridgestone Turanzas on my 06 vRS.

Mixed driving / no serious misuse. :cool:

I managed to get about 19,000 miles out my original tyres...having rotated them twice.

On our first VRS with the Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres on the front, we managed to get 26k out of them before they needed replacing. The rear ones were just about worn out when we sold the car at 51k.

Our current VRS is down to around 4.5mm of tread left on the front, and around 7mm on the rear after only 13.5k (Sport contact 2 tyres ).

We are driving the majority of the time down a dual carriage way, with the odd roundabout thrown in too. Oh and the odd weekend blast round the lanes too :)

The secret is to rotate the fronts to the rears every 5000 miles this way all 4 wear out together and then come replacement time you will get a much better deal as its 4 tyres rather than 2.

I used to use Avons/Bridgestone/Conti's etc but I have now swopped to michelin Pilot Exalto 2's these are incredible very low road noise, very good wet grip and hardly any noticable difference between them & Eagle F1's for dry grip. The biggest advantage is that they are now nearly over 30,000 and still have well over 5mm all round. I drive on the M ways and up to Wales via the mountain passes (corwen B roads) I dont drive slowly at all but I have not once lost traction off the line due to the LSD on my FWD Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo.

Since buying these Michelin I will never buy another brand these provide very safe driving great total life value for money and are very quiet & they have the grooves in them like the F1 treads.

I have the original Bridgestone Turanzas on the front and have just about done 20K. Was hoping to get them rotated but i think they are past that stage now.

I thought this was quite good tyre wear as i like in Milton Keynes with all them roundabouts!!!

Best Ive heard is that a sales rep friend of a friend ran his Saab 95 2.2TDI Liner Estate for 80,000 miles on one set of Michelin Exaltos and is going to get even more from the Michelin NSC/NTC's fuel economy on these tyres is also better than some other tyre brands.

This driving is mainly motorway and this person does over 80k a year (ouch)

I swear the Michelin energy tyres are plastic.. they never wear out! car was on 40k and had at least 4mm left.. had to change them for a set of khumos cause I felt unsafe with plastic tyres.. Only £35 a corner for piddly 14's hehe..

Yep, I got about this with the Mich Primacy tyres , rear will go at least to 50,000 miles.

I changed the fronts for the Goodyear F1 tyres and my god, nobody can balance the front wheels, 5, yes 5 garages have now tried so I'm driving a bit harder so I can change them soon!! awful. Must say, dry grip for the F1's is great, going back to the Primacy though.

P-A your experience is similar to mine; c.22k on the fronts and expect to get around 45k on the rears. All original Bridgestones.

I found dry grip to be a bit better than Pilot Exalto 2's but in the wet they were rubbish in comparison.

At the end of the day in the real world we all want tyres which give the shortest stopping distance and the best grip in wet/greasy conditions & which will last for as big a milage as is possible to reduce the running costs + want them to be as quiet as possible.

Note - could fit the M3 CSL inter on excellent in the dry but you shouldnt use in the wet - ideal for the Med/Middle east but UK for 6 months of the year.... no thanks.

24000 on the original Michelin Pilot Premacies. Fronts will need replacing soon, but backs look like new.

still running the original Michelin rear tyres at 43k (minus 1.5k Ring trip) plenty of tread left , currently on second set of fronts , they've done about 20k with about 4mm tread left

Just wait 'till your front wishbone bushes soften up a little!

Was horrified to discover my front current front Toyos lost 5mm of tread in 5,000 miles and I hadn't been driving it that hard!

New cupra bushes time!

if i get 9k on my vrs fronts i wiould be happy
