Would i stand a chance against an mk4 astra gsi turbo

Featured Replies

Their seems to be 3 topics here.

1. Original was std fabia vs Astra Turbo = Not a chance.

2. Revo + FMIC vs AStra turbo = could be more interesting

3. Octy vRS vs Astra Turbo = If it could keep up then a REVO'd Fabia could too.

I don't really understand why anyone would race anything in a Fabia vRS. Pulling away quickly is nothing but frustrating. First gear is way too short anyway and only good from 0-5MPH, then in 2nd and 3rd and onwards the PD power band is so narrow it's just like a series of abrupt jerks forward. It's just seriously uncivilised. The Fabia vRS is in it's element on the move, such at fast cruising on A roads, not very good at traffic light grand prix. Anyway, isn't that what the Saxo is for?

Oh deffo when i get av 82.9mpg on fc on the way home from work.

Just out of curiosity, how would i do with the revo map and forge fmic?

I have Revo, K&N + PD160 intake and a turbo back Blueflame exhaust system and a Mini Cooper S pulled ahead no problem.

astra everytime, lighter, more powerful and more responsive. if it gets traction that is

OMG, stop the press!!!!!

an honest fabia driver!!!  :P ;)

but i thought the fabia whopped a cooper S, CTR, STi etc etc????

i feel very disappointed now :(

Oh right... errrm I must be a crap driver. :P :D

Obviously I dont know if that Cooper S had been messed with like mine, but off a roundabout in 3rd where the vRS is at its best, I still couldn't make any ground. Not trying to put the vRS down but thats what happened!!! :(

A cooperS would also have you, especially in the twisties. Not by anywhere near as much as an Astra GSi but it would still beat you. Remember, the Fabia only beat the bog standard 115bhp Cooper round a track, not the 168bhp super/turbocharged cooperS. :)

Get a remap and it would be a different story IMO, until you hit a twisty road again and then you're onto a loser.

Yeah but if you had a 2.0l furby........

Ahhh yes .......... now that legendary beast would sure produce the goods against an Astra GSI, in the twisties it would muller the GSI, and a Cooper S, especialy if it was shod with a set of Falkens

A 2.0 would trounce a Monaro , not just an Astra! :)

i love it

the only race you could beat the gsi in is .... who runs out of gear changes first!

I pulled about half a length between 40 and 110 on my brothers. He then pulled a legth when we went from 30. Depends on who is power band etc. Difference Cooper S vs Remapped furby is very little until silly speeds...

Like I said, I dont know if his was remapped. I hope it was...

I cant keep quiet any longer lol.

After spening 2 hours in a cooper s a few weeks back the power is disapointing compared to a revo vrs the guy who owned the mini said the same after driving my fabia.Handling is a diferent matter not half as much understeer from the mini but overall the fabia in my opinion drove better the mini the main problem being the very heavy clutch in the mini being the bigest bad impresion.

All this i raced this car and won is a load of crap, unless both cars are in the race, most of the time they are not.The fact is that at low speed most cars are hard to separate.A guy in a 1 ltr fiesta gives it full revs and dumps the clutch from the lights is not to far behind a car with twice the bhp, most of it is down to driver skill.

Most of my life iv spent racing most of my life iv been acused of having a faster bike, not the case skill has alot to do with it.

As for a car that acelerates qhick, when the vrs (a mapped one) is in the max torque zone it acelerates as quickas alot of so called very fast cars eg impresza.Im not saying it will out acelerate an impreza but at the max torque point it can equall it therfore it feels as fast that is why it is fun. The thing is the impreza can hold that aceleration longer in the same gear therefore is quicker without the max aceleratin being any more.

its hard to explain but i know what i mean lol and iv had few drinks lol.Iv also had alot of fast cars my wife has a mapped new gti its awsome but even having that the fabia vrs is still more fun and feels faster even though it is not .Sorry for the rant just trying to explain why the fabia vrs is so much fun and feels so good and so fast its because it is fun and is fast once roling its as fast as a type r witch cant be called slow but i will call boring lol and before you reply it does not handle anywhere near a type r but it does not handle bad when driven right.

Come on you fabia fans join me and rejoyes in a car that does not come along very often(im also taking price into acount) Im covering all bases here lol.

My spelling is ****e dont judge me by it

A type-R is as quick as an Impreza :sofahide:

well an impreza might not of been the best example but im grasping at straws lol :P

Pah, an Impreza would have the Type-R in the Twisties :P:rofl:

An Evo would have the edge over an Impreza on the twisties.. :P

well after going out in a stage 1 astra gsi tonight i will have to say with even a remapped furby there would be a big difference but then again i have never driven a remapped fabia but i have been in a remapped golf and as milky john says the furby maybe quick on the naughty band of revs but petrols have a lot more to play with

a remapped fabia does not pull as hard as an imprezza, i have never driven either an imprezza or a fabia but i have raced both on an airfield and the wrx pulled harder than my car and my car pulled harder than a fabia so the difference between them will be noticable for sure. it was "only" a standard wrx i played with but it was a goer.

I worked for Vauxhall up until recently. In the Astra G (1998 - 2004) the 200bhp is a seriously quick car. In the Astra H (current model), its still quick but there is quite an increase in weight compared to the old model so performance is not quite as quick. The Fabia would live with the 170ps turbo lump in the current model though (once rolling as opposed to a standing start). The 200bhp would still have an edge albeit less than the old GSi models.
