Temperature gauge doesn't move

Featured Replies

Skoda Ocatvia 1,6 year 2001

My car goes into a emergency mode because of a error in the electronic system.

System error in the system error lamp (yellow and look like a engine) the temp. gauge also fails to budge from the starting position.

I've had this problem 2 times in the last year. First time the Skoda shop ran a diagnostics on it and changed the coolant temperature sensor. Worked fine for 6 months.

The same problem surfaced again. Different shop did the work (changed the coolant temperature sensor again and the thermostat).

The radiator fan runs for 2 or 3 min. after the the engine is turned off, this happens every time the problem surfaces (even in freezing weather).

I have seen alot of talk in the forums about the coolant contacts being very vulnerable to defects (a new green model being a better replacement)

I have read there is also a 2 pronged coolant contact near the thermostat, could this be part of the problem ?

Planning a trip to Italy in 3 weeks and would really like to get this problem solved.

it could be the exspansion tank do you get the chimes when you start the car first thing in the morning and then the diagnostic light come on. If so this is your water bottle a new one is about a tenner you can change it yourself it's simple and it will save you time and money doing it yourself if you need any more info let me know

p.s. normally if the chimes happen then the light you can turn off the engine turn it back on and it goes ok then (well it did on mine )

Don't hear any chimes and the yellow engine problem light is constantly on. Talked to the shop today and looked at my bill, they put in a new coolant sensor and new coolant contact (the one by the radiator). Could this problem be as simple as a defect thermostat ?

Any way to EASILY check if the thermostat i functioning correctly. It is freezing here in Denmark and I don't fancy getting drenched in antifreeze.

Thanks for your replies

Seem to have found the problem. The connector seems to be able to loosen itself at the end of the temperature sensor. Skoda didn't waste any wire length in there design here. The wiring on my car can just barely make it over to the sensor. Apparently it can vibrate itself loose thus causing my malfunctions.

Pushed the wiring down an presto ! Yellow engine light dissappeared - Temp guage worked - radiator fans didn't run when car was turned off.

thanks for the reply

cool glad your sorted mate
