Potential Roomster owner :-)

Featured Replies

Hello Forum.

I have had a look at the Roomster at my local dealer who is John Mullholland and have not yet made my mind up if it is the car for me or not ?

What do you the Roomster owners think of it so far, i want your honest unbiased opinion about the car whether its good or bad points let me know ?

I heard that the Engine that is in the Diesel version is the same Engine that is in the Audi A1 Diesel, is this correct or not ?

Look forward to some interesting opinions on this.

John in Kilrea, Northern Ireland.

I'm not a roomster owner , but the 105bhp 1.9tdi engine is used in plenty of other VAG cars including the Mk2 Octavia. It's a decent engine and should be plenty rapid enough and still economical.

The three cylinder 1.4tdi engines are both used in the current Fabia (and Polo and Ibiza) and seem to be well regarded by their owners. Obviously they will be a bit slower , but are nice and economical.

It's a development of the one first used in the Audi A2 and seems to be trouble free.

I've no idea about diesel engine, but there is a huge room in it for families or persons who carry bike, surfboard etc :D

i was really impressed with the test drive i had in a roomster 2 wiht the tdi 105 lump in it. only things i would posibly change if i could, i'd have the old airvents and the wing mirrors less bulky.... :P but in all fairness nothing i could point out that was maorly bad..possibly the b pillars re more form than function but thats one of the the funky bits of the car!:)

Have owned Roomster 3 with 1.9 diesel for 6 weeks and have nothing but praise. Engine very responsive with good pulling power and present consumption 53mpg+. Very comfortable and stable. Performance as good as my previous Fabia

Take one for a serious test drive. I've had one for 5 days now and still can't get comfortable in it. Driving position feels very 'van like' if that makes sense.

Mine has 1.4TDI 3 cylinder engine which I believe is 80BHP. Zips along just fine and engine note is one of the most peculiar that you'll hear. Sounds like a sewing machine at the top of the rev range!!

I've test driven the 1.9TDi Roomster 3, and had a good look over a Roomster 2. I was very impressed by fit and finish, comfortable ride and usability. I like the quirky looks myself. The two obvious, though relatively minor shortcomings are the parcel shelf only completely covers the loadbay when rear seats are right back and I think reclined a bit, and the middle rear seat doesn't slide to align with the outer ones (can be removed tho.) Other possible issue: I don't think the ivory upholstery in the 3 would go well with children, and the recently introduced onyx alternative may seem rather dark with all black dash. Roomster 2 upholstery choices seem to offer a better compromise between light and not showing dirt. I'd suggest you take advantage of the 24 hour testdrive many dealers offer

My local dealer said they'd had orders for 18 Roomsters, so people are buying them! Hope this helps.

I had ivory upholstery in my first Fabia, and it degraded quite gracefully - although spot marks may be a prolem.

Got a 1.4 diesel Roomster 2. Great car, Kids love it, dog loves it, oh yes and the wife!. Super MPG. Could do with a little more "umph" occasionally but hey, you cant have everything!. Dont worry about the light interior trim on the Roomster 3. Dark trim is coming out soon as an option.

Do the seats fold flat? As in the ocassional nights kip after a days fishing?

My father got his Roomi 3 in December. He got the big diesel engine and loves it. His previous 'car' was a peugeot partner and he told me the roomi doesn't feel van like at all to him - and I have to agree myself having now driven both. Its an MPV so its not going to be like driving a vrs but its definitely a comfortable and extremely versatile car. he has nothing but praise for it.

Had my Roomster 2, 1.4 TDi for a couple of months. It is excellent. Spacious, really clever touches (MP3 socket, loads of cubbies, air con outlet in glove box to keep drink cool etc. etc.). Big back windows & high seats in back mean kids get a great view. Front seats move in all directions including a long way up + down, good interior trim (2 tone grey on mine).

It is tall so you can see where you parked it (?)

Only thing I do not like is a fault on the glove box lamp that means it does not go off! Haven't contacted the dealer on that yet!

Cannot really fault the car. It perhaps has a niche market, but fills the role better than the competition.

roomster for not young boys car :D
