Lowering with ASP...

Featured Replies

ESP!!!

Is it possible? I've heard that ASP (Edit: ESP!! dohh!!)won't work if the cars lowered, is this true? the suspension will be stiffer so it will affect it in a way....

whilst on the subject would an rear ARB affect it?

If this has been asked before, please point me in the right direction (as i can't seem to find owt)

Dunno if it has been asked before - but here's my opinion ;)

ASP just tries to cut engine power/torque to allow the front tyres to regain traction when it looses it. Lowering the car won't change that principle.

As for changes to grip etc - guessing you're going for Eibachs - the Koni FSD dampers I have combined with the Eibachs I found work better than the Eibach dampers I had on before. The damping is superiour.

That said - no problems really, it will change the way the car handles and you'll have to get used to it, but it is good IMHO.

The Jabbasport rear ARB makes a massive difference in the handling of the car, it really changes the understeer/oversteer a fair bit so you'd want to be aware of that. However it again does not impact on the ASR as such.

I've got ESP on mine, which does a lot more to 'keep the car in check' - and it seems to behave just fine even with the suspension changes I've got on mine.

Sorry, I meant ESP not ASP.

so you have both lowered and have an ARB on yours and it hasn't affected it at all? - have u tested it out?

I might have ;) hehe

It is absolutely fine. It is more 'scary' if you require the ESP as the back likes to step out a bit if you lift off, but it will grab it back just nicely.

However - ESP wise - IF you get this done, make sure you get the 4WA done AND get the ESP reset to relearn the mid-position. Apparently it involves driving the car at certain speeds etc, but I got mine done by APS recently to make sure it was done by the book ;)

I'd certainly do that with a local specialist familiar with the requirements of the ESP system.

Generally though, as long as the Eibachs are fitted properly it shouldnt cause much of a problem with the alignment, it's worth spending a little money on it though to avoid excessive tyre wear :)

esp isn't affected by the stiffness of the suspension.... it's operation is based on the indivual speed of each wheel and the abs system

Indeed - however the midpoint of the ESP system needs to be reset if you do a 4WA, I only found this out after I had done my 4WA (first time). No idea how bad it is if it gets out of step :)

:iagree: yes indeed, the steering angle sensor plays a huge part too

4WA

4 wheel assist?

4 wheel alignment

Lowering my car made no difference to the ESP.

Are you doing springs or springs and shocks?

I'm not sure yet, up untill now I've always believed I couldn't do it..

It will most likely be springs, it's all i can afford at the mo.. I'm just reading through all the threads for advice on whether to go rear ARB or springs. It will only be getting lowered a little as i still need a dignified ride height.

Rear ARB.

Don't think about it, get on one of the group buys!
