16" alloys clearing 323mm brembo discs?

Featured Replies

Hmmm - have a feeling 16" golf GTI wheels will not clear my imminent brembo install. It's something I hadn't thought of when deciding on the upgrade.....

They'll be for sale if I won't be able to use them. 16" Golf GTI alloys with semi slick kuhmo tyres in 205/45 R16 - minimal tread, but life for a couple more trackdays.

They deffo wont for sure. And a fair few wheels wil struggle clearing the Brembo calipers aswell. I would imagine you will need spacers with your 17's as it is.

What's wrong with the 312's if you don't mind me asking?

You know Jason, never happy.

Bigger is better and all that ;)

nothing really - I just want even better stopping power. :)

OK, sounds like my track wheels are for sale and I will have to look for some simliar 7.5J 17" wheels to have as track wheels. Audi TT 6 spokes sound like a good target.

I'm getting spacers for my current 17s, even though I'm not sure if they will foul. Audi TT Comps clear don't they? ;) ;) My wheels are 7.5J ET38, so not sure how this compares to TT comps.

Can I just add in... 323mm brakes won't give you any more stopping power over 312's, If they do, then you'll hardly notice it. The only thing different to the feel of the 323's in comparison to the 312's when pushed hard is brake fade.

Drove a Leon Cupra with 312's and then got back into mine, the brakes felt the exact same but after a while the brake fade was noticeable. But no brake fade appeared on the 323 Brembos.

You'd really have to push your car hard to notice.. :)

They do look good though don't they ;)

The 323's will give more stopping power if you use good quality pads, eight pistions is better than two at applying more pressure to the disc as its working from both sides.

Having driven with both i'd go with the Brembos everytime.

Jason, its not so much the offset, just the shape of the back of the spokes to clear the calipers.

Fair enough - going to be a suck it and see. The brembos I'm getting are coming with ds2500 pads, which should be pretty damn good.

Yup, Xav will vouch for them.

So does my head ... thanks, Xav!

Chris

i have the DS2500 on my brembo's J and they are very good when going for it but if you drive gently a lot then they can be a bit less effective than standard pads as they work a lot better when warm. but what i found going from the 288mm standard to the 323mm brembo's is the cold performance of the brembo's was better than the performance of the 288's anytime but the brembo's didn't fade and worked better and better when you get them hot :)

and you have no chance on 16's mate i tried :D

i believe gerry is thinking about selling his 18" RS4 replica's, they would probably clear no problem ;)

RS4 reps usually foul the calipers due to the curve of the spokes.

I would basically be on the lookout for a set of track 17" wheels really, that will essentially be the same as mine now. I'm thinking about some scuffed up TT 6 spokes than I can rough up a bit more and paint with black hammerite (or smooth green! ) Both my usual wheels and these track wheels must clear with 10mm spacers (which I should be using I reckon)

Only think is with TT wheels is they are very heavy,
